TMW: Centre-back the priority with list ‘getting longer’ as Milan eye January signing

AC Milan are expecting to make at least one signing during the January transfer window and according to a report, they have a clear priority.

After six league games, it has become clear that Milan could fight for more than just a top-four spot this season. Massimiliano Allegri has been able to change things rather quickly, with the Rossoneri looking a lot more like a team, and the results speak for themselves.

That said, as the current ‘injury crisis’ is showing, Milan perhaps don’t have the best depth in the league. This is especially evident in defence as the Rossoneri initially intended to play with a four-man backline, switching late to a three-man backline.

Centre-back evaluations underway

According to Nicolo Ceccarini of TuttoMercatoWeb, Milan’s priority for the January transfer window is indeed to sign a centre-back. Some targets have remained since the summer, such as Joe Gomez, but the Rossoneri are also evaluating other players as the wish list is ‘getting longer’.

Koni De Winter is currently the only centre-back deputy, which clearly isn’t enough for a club like Milan. David Odogu could perhaps be added to that list but he remains rather inexperienced, and the Rossoneri seem more keen to give him playing time with the Futuro side.

  1. 7 million euros spent on a defender who will play semi pro football? Meanwhile we didn’t have the budget to sign a good RB or LB. We only have one competition this year, the team needs to build chemistry to play against stronger competition next season who integrated their depth options for a few years already. These positions been problematic for 3 years.

  2. Alessandro Circati from Parma. Young and very talented, fully recovered after a serios knee injury last season but this season he played all games. Last summer we lost opportunity to take Leoni, but now we should not miss opportunity to take Circati

  3. why we bought Winter & Odogu then?
how a bankrupt Inter can easily out-muscle us in Akanji, Thuram, Taremi..
can we just sign 1of Djimsiti/ Skriniar/ Min-Jae/ any reliable & expd CB, we’ve Pav, Gabbia & Tomori they’re still young, we don’t need younger cz many of them inconcistent (look at Yoro/ de Light)
