TMW: Milan to discuss renewal with Leao after the World Cup – a new offer is ready

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are getting their latest offer ready as they hope to reach an agreement over the renewal of Rafael Leao, according to one journalist.

Niccolo Ceccarini’s latest for TMW writes that Leao is focused on going as far as possible in the World Cup with passage to the quarter-finals secured last night through a 6-1 win over Switzerland, a game Leao scored a stunning goal in.

After he is done in Qatar, it will be time to meet with Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara to talk about his renewal. Leao’s bond with the Rossoneri is strong, and he knows that he has become a key pillar at the club, but Chelsea and lately Real Madrid have also shown interest.

That is why the management intend to convince the player to stay in Milan to build an increasingly successful project together, so the current idea is to offer a contract that could be close to €7m net per season.

This is seen by Maldini and Massara as a significant effort to extend Leao’s contract – which expires in June 2024 – but the issue of the compensation owed to Sporting CP remains and certainly cannot be underestimated.

What is certain is that before the resumption of the season there will be a meeting in which Milan and Leao will try to get as close as possible.
