TMW: Morata asks entourage to work out Milan move – loan deal cannot be excluded

Alvaro Morata is pushing to join AC Milan and has asked his entourage to resolve his future as soon as possible, a report claims.

According to the latest from TMW, Morata is determined to return to play in Serie A and live in Italy with his family. In fact, he did not take well to Atletico Madrid signing Memphis Depay to challenge him for a starting spot last season.

Morata wants to change clubs and there is a chance he will miss the start of preseason preparations under Diego Simeone. However, there is no shortage of difficulties and obstacles to overcome first.

Morata receives a salary of around €5-6m net per season currently but he agree to lower that to the €4m net per season offer by Milan for four seasons.

In order to let Morata leave, Atletico are asking for the payment of the €20m clause inserted after his recent renewal until 2026. However, they could evaluate other solutions such as a loan with option to buy that becomes an obligation under certain conditions.

Milan cannot make use of the Growth Decree for this operation, a factor that makes the negotiation even more expensive and difficult. All three parties involved will need to do some work for things to be fully agreed quickly, as the player hopes.

  1. That’s an interesting point on loans. The growth decree used to be usable for a 2 year loan but not 1 year ones, but now 2 year loans are banned no loan can benefit from that arrangement. So it makes permanent transfers much more appealing.

I think four years is a lot but I think Morata as a medium term Giroud replacement for two seasons makes a lot of sense.
