TMW: Palermo make decision on €10m Chaka Traore option after play-off elimination

By Oliver Fisher -

Palermo have made a decision regarding the future of Chaka Traore after it was confirmed that they will not be making their long-awaited return to Serie A, a report claims.

As TMW writes, after Palermo’s elimination from the Serie B promotion play-offs the evaluation phase has begun at Palermo ahead of next season, and it starts with the fact that Michele Mignani will remain the head coach having only been appointed in April.

The Rosanero have the ultimate ambition of returning to the top flight given that they are part of the City Football Group – with Manchester City the namesake – and therefore have certain strategic advantages.

The report adds that the Sicilian club has already decided not to buy both Liam Henderson – a Scottish midfielder who arrived on loan last summer from Empoli – and Chaka Traoré on permanent deals, despite having the option to do so.

Traore made the move to Palermo in January from Milan on an initial loan deal and he made just one start in the second half of the season for them, with one assist and zero goals to his name across 12 appearances.

He will thus return to base and it is likely that Milan’s new head coach will evaluate him over the summer before a decision is made about another loan or even potentially a sale, given there was a willingness to include a €10m option to buy in the deal with Palermo.

  1. If he is as good as they say he is Milan should loan him to spain like real loaned diaz to Milan.. see what cooks, we might need him in 2 years.. selling youngsters was never a good idea on the logn term

  2. He ruined his career by joining us instead of continuing his breakthrough to first team minutes at Parma…for those who think we blood talents in our Primavera.

      1. Fair point.
I do get that eerie feeling though.
He trajectory was upwards before us but his growth has been stunted.

          1. I’m hoping that Under 23 does what it needs to do. I wonder if we can run it in conjunction with the Primavera? These kids need as much game time as they can. In England they play them in those smaller cups. They get exposure so early on to the tempo and atmosphere

  3. Hopefully they will get the Serie C side to be able to allow the development of players like this rather than let him walk. Play under Bonera in Serie C and then loan out to a Serie A side without the option to buy.

Frustrating when you consider how many players have come and gone in the club that were never given the chance to develop and then became good talent elsewhere…….see PEA, Bellanova, Locatelli, Saponara, Crisante, Darmian, Acerbi, Paqueta……..
