TMW: Talks underway for Milan full-back’s renewal – pay rise needed with several teams interested

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are looking to secure the long-term future of Davide Calabria with talks underway over a new deal, a report claims.

As TMW reports, Calabria has probably been Milan’s most pleasant surprise at the start of the season as after a difficult 2019-20 campaign due to injuries and general poor form, he has rebounded wonderfully to make the starting right-back spot his.

Last night Calabria scored his first goal of the season with a long-range effort to make it 1-1 against Genoa as the game ended 2-2. It was a goal that shows how much his confidence is growing, and the Rossoneri now consider Calabria a pivot also of the team of the future.

For this reason the management are already working to renew his contract, with Calabria willing to stay at the club of his heart. The figures have been talked about and a substantial increase in salary will be needed, also because there is no lack of interest from different clubs.

However, the feeling is very optimistic that Milan can reach an agreement with Calabria and extend his deal beyond 2022, which is when his current contract expires.
