Tomori describes Scudetto win as ‘best moment’ of his career and sets sights on repeat success

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori has described the Scudetto win as the best moment of his career, detailing his love for the club since arriving from Chelsea.

Tomori arrived at Milan on an initial loan deal from Chelsea in the January of 2021 and he quickly established himself as one of the top centre-backs in Serie A thanks to his incredible athleticism and reading of the game.

He and Pierre Kalulu have transformed Milan’s fortunes with Stefano Pioli able to play an aggressive high line to really help with the territorial domination further up the pitch that was seen in the league title win of 2021-22.

Tomori was interviewed by GQ magazine during which he spoke about a number of topics from the joys of the Scudetto win in May to the more serious issue of racism in football, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“Anyone who follows football knows what football is. Milan: a great club known all over the world. And then it was Maldini who wanted me, as a defender it was an aspect that made me very happy,” he said.

“I remember the first Champions League match at home, against Atlético: even if we didn’t win, the atmosphere was incredible.”

On the Scudetto win, he added: “It was all… crazy. The tour on the bus through the streets of the city was incredible, wherever we went there were our fans, it was crazy. It was certainly the best moment of my career.

“It’s nice to look back, we have tasted what it means to win, but now we want to try to repeat ourselves. Winning once is extraordinary, but a second…

“I’m always happy when we don’t concede goals, also because we know that our chances of winning increase: with great strikers like Leao and Giroud up front, sooner or later we manage to score.”

Finally a thought on fight against racism: “It is a problem of education. I know I have a responsibility, I know I can be an example and inspire boys and girls.”
