CM: Tonali the future of Milan and Italy – the latest on a potential renewal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan fully intend to reward Sandro Tonali for the immense growth that he has shown this season but it is not a matter of urgency, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com reports how Tonali is a player that Roberto Mancini or the next Italy manager must build around given his suitability for both the 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 systems as both a player in the double pivot and also as a regista.

Tonali arrived at Milan in 2020 on a paid loan from Brescia with an option to buy and it was made permanent last summer, meaning his contract expires in 2026. A renewal is absolutely not a priority at the moment for this reason and attention is concentrated on the pitch and the Scudetto challenge.

There is confidence from the management and the club will continue to make the No.8 a central part of their plans moving forward, while the extension of his contract will be discussed in due course.

A few months ago Tonali gave up half a million in salary to push through the permanent switch to his boyhood club, and when the time comes a well-earned pay rise should be in order.
