Tonali insists Milan ‘want to build brick by brick’ as he reflects on ‘beautiful’ Rossoneri league debut

By Oliver Fisher -

New signing Sandro Tonali has reflected upon the ‘beautiful’ moment of making his Serie A debut for AC Milan.

Having arrived from Brescia on a loan with option to buy deal earlier in the month, Tonali made his competitive debut for the Rossoneri during Thursday’s 2-0 win over Shamrock Rovers in Dublin.

He was given a bit more time to show his qualities on Monday night though, coming on with just under 20 minutes left of Milan’s 2-0 win over Bologna at San Siro.

Tonali was interviewed by Milan TV at the end of the game and spoke about the emotion of his first league outing for his boyhood club, with his responses transcribed by MilanNews.

“Playing here at San Siro is always beautiful, a stadium that has made football history and is always an emotion. We heard the fans, even though there were only a few,” he said.

“Pioli always tells us to work a lot, then when a player is ready he lets him play. The goal is to work during the week.”

Ultimately, it would be the Zlatan Ibrahimovic show as the striker scored either side of half-time to take his tally to three goals for the season, netting with a trademark towering header and an even more trademark emphatic penalty.

On the Swede, Tonali added: “He always remains the same, he is always strong. Even today he gave us a great hand, he is an example. He should just be admired and that’s it.”

Will Tonali think back to his debut, or is he already thinking about the next game?

“We are certainly already thinking about the next game, we want to build brick by brick. I will certainly remember this moment as it should be but with our heads we are already at the next race.”
