CM: The tops and flops from Milan’s win against Marseille as winger sends a message

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan got another preseason win on the board on Sunday evening as they beat Marseille in front of over 60,000 fans at the Stade Velodrome.

Both goals came in the first half as Junior Messias added to his tally with a delightful curling shot and then Olivier Giroud marked his return to his home country with a typically well-placed finish. Calciomercato.com have picked out three players who impressed and one who didn’t.

Junior Messias: He had a hand in both goals as he scored the opener and then squared for Giroud to make it 2-0. With the transfer market still very much open, it was a sign from the Brazilian to Stefano Pioli, letting him know he is ready to make his contribution.

Olivier Giroud: Did well in the build-up phase by being a typical centre-forward, and was lethal inside the box. One shot, one goal.

Pierre Kalulu: He was safe and clean in the tackles that he had to make while once again showing his ability and confidence when starting build-up play.

Ante Rebic: The Croatian certainly wasn’t lacking as he got on the ball plenty and tried to be direct, but he also lost possession a few times and of the starters he was the player who had the least impact.
