Torino head coach Ivan Juric has spoken about the ‘great joy’ of beating AC Milan in the Coppa Italia, but insisted he liked what he saw from the Rossoneri for an hour.
Milan were looking for a response in front of over 60,000 home fans as San Siro after throwing away a two-goal lead against Roma at the weekend, but they were not able to find even a single goal in over 120 minutes of action.
Torino centre-back Djidji saw red with 20 minutes of normal time remaining, which made it seem as though the Rossoneri would be able to make their numerical superiority and dominance pay, however in the second period of extra time the Granata scored on the counter to win the game.
Juric spoke at the post-match press conference in the media room at San Siro to give his thoughts on a very memorable win for his side against the odds, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
Where do you rank this victory among the best in your career?
“There are good moments in my career, we cared a lot about this game. In 10 vs 11, character and organisation came out. It’s a great joy for the club: we needed it, we needed a positive emotional boost for everyone.”
Can Torino aim for the Europa League?
“This team isn’t built for the Europa League, it’s not even close… There are a few things missing. In Salerno we dominated but didn’t win and these are limits. The goal is for the boys to grow and we want to go as far forward as possible in the Coppa Italia.”
What adjective do you give to the team?
“Application.”
Were Milan not very humble?
“I saw great intensity, great work rate and great pace, with a very direct game. The match was very intense and we managed it. Then maybe they thought the goal would come, but for the first 60 minutes I liked Milan.”
