Tuttosport: AFCON dilemma will have to wait as Bennacer is focused on recovery

By Isak Möller -

Ismael Bennacer is working hard to recover from his knee injury and he will be back at Milanello for the first time on Monday. Upon his return, which is a few months away, he will need to decide on the AFCONs.

Bennacer has been working on his own with a physiotherapist abroad in the last few months and everything has gone according to plan. As was confirmed yesterday, the midfielder will be back at Milanello on Monday (the 16th).

According to today’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Bennacer is expecting to be back on the pitch in mid-December. However, given the severity of his injury, they will take it slow at the beginning and he could perhaps make his comeback in January.

The question, then, will be if he wants to join Algeria for the AFCONs 2023 or not (African Cup of Nations). Should he say yes, then Stefano Pioli will have to wait until the beginning of February for his return.

Of course, as the newspaper concludes, the most important thing is that the recovery is going well. The AFCON decision will have to wait for now.

  1. I don’t want to believe that if bennacer isn’t injured, my dumb coach wouldn’t hesitate to use cheek-krunic-bennacer combination and wasted the talent of reinjders or make us believe that reinjder isn’t ready as in the case of adli. Always look for excuses to favour his guys not minding the potential. And anytime he gave reinjders the rare chance, we wouldn’t look at his potential cos how coach said he isn’t ready.

My question: why is it that Pioli doesn’t see any potential in a player until there’s an emergency which he will be forced to use such player as in the case of Thiaw, Adli, even Kalulu?
