AC Milan defender Matteo Gabbia is set to be handed another big opportunity on Wednesday night for the game against Sampdoria.
Milan have not lost since the resumption of Serie A, winning seven of their 10 fixtures and including wins over Lazio, Roma and Juventus.
The most recent result was a 1-1 draw against Atalanta in which five key players were missing from the starting XI, and Pioli began his pre-Sampdoria press conference by praising his side for their performance.
As Tuttosport notes on Wednesday (via MilanNews), Milan will welcome back Theo Hernandez and Ismael Bennacer from suspension, but captain Alessio Romagnoli has still not recovered and will miss the rest of the season.
That means that Matteo Gabbia will once again be alongside Simon Kjaer at the heart of Pioli’s defence while Leo Duarte – who has now fully recovered – will start on the bench. Davide Calabria will complete the defence on the right, with Conti injured.
