Tuttosport: Calabria-Simic-Gabbia-Bartesaghi – Milan could field a ‘homemade’ defence

AC Milan’s defensive crisis has given some extra playing time to some younger players who might not have been expecting it, such as Jan-Carlo Simic on Sunday for example.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes that among the positive aspects of this first part of the season is the work of Milan’s youth sector. In December, three young Primavera players have already made their first team debuts in Serie A: Davide Bartesaghi, Francesco Camarda and Simic.

Furthermore, Chaka Traorè came on in the Champions League against Dortmund and he is another player who now seems to have made the full-time switch from Ignazio Abate’s side to being under Stefano Pioli’s orders.

The paper has a section this morning headlined: ‘Calabria, Simic, Gabbia, Bartesaghi: the idea of a home-made defence’. In fact, if a possible return of Matteo Gabbia from his loan to Villarreal were to materialise, a rearguard could potentially be built entirely made up of players who left the academy.

However, it must be noted that CEO Giorgio Furlani was asked about the idea of terminating Gabbia’s loan early and he stressed that he has not yet had any discussions regarding that idea, something his agent had previously said too.
