With Stefano Pioli set to depart from AC Milan after this weekend’s fixture against Salernitana, the Rossoneri are still yet to elect their next head coach, but a report has suggested that a key name is no longer in the running.
The debacle about Milan’s next manager is following a similar trend to the one that surrounded the final season of the current manager, perhaps even his entire tenure. Pioli is no stranger to controversy about his position, and previous seasons have proved that. However, this season, the volume of the controversy increased.

Whilst the season started positively, a 5-1 defeat to Inter halted that, and questions began to be asked. Peaks and troughs continued throughout the season, but the questions remained at the forefront of the season.
Perhaps the Rossoneri did not help this, refusing to give answers on the future on occasion. However, it now seems their answer has been given, even if there is no official confirmation of it.
Now, they must look to the future, and their options have been lessening in recent weeks.
As Tuttosport (via Radio Rossonera) reports, that shortlist has gotten shorter this morning. This weekend, Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that he would leave Brighton after their fixture at the weekend, but his next destination will not be Milan.
Instead, the decision is between Paulo Fonseca and Mark van Bommel, who has seen his chances drastically increase in the past week. The report continues, stating that a decision has effectively been made, and they will wait until the season’s conclusion to announce their decision.

Out of all coaches on list we went for the worst 2.
De Zerbi, Conceicao, Conte, Motta all on market but we go for this.
Absolute joke of a management. Even Zlatan. Very poor from him. Didn’t expect him to back these 2.
How are they jokes Fonseca is a winner, he has coached in Italy and Porto, and he won league titles in Shaktar, Van Bommel was a serial winner both domestically and in Europe, he won league titles in Italy, Germany, Spain and Holland, he was a pupil of great Coaches both domestically and as a Dutch international, was a Captain of Bayern Munich, has coached in Holland , Germany and Belgium, he has also won a domestic treble in Belgium, how is he a joke…??
Stop playing. Who is Bommel as a coach? Absolute joke.
Again, stop playing.
I hope this is one of the trash from media though.
Van Bommel won belgian league and cup with Antwerp. Did you know the last time they won the league was 65 years ago. He is special, despite he doesn’t get the spotlight as much as motta or de zerbi
If this is so U Sman why have the big teams in Europe avoid signing him and Fonseca?
Why not sign someone that has coached in Italy and Shaktar and England and is a Rosso Nero in the heart?
Honestly can you compare someone who was a Captain of Bayern Munich and PSV, who played and won a UCL with Barca, and someone who won a Scudetto with “AC MILAN”, not someone who never even won with the primevera team, who was only a protagonist in series b and provincial teams, I can still remember the the 2005 UCL semi finals between PSV and Milan, how he controlled the Midfield in both legs, dominated our midfield of Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf and Ambrosini, if you would objectively have a survey , between DE Zerbi and Van Bommel, about who did more for the club, you would know who would win…
You don’t seem to understand that stellar players don’t always make good coaches. MVB is too raw as a coach.
Exactly. They won more than Pioli, and Sacchi and Capello won nothing before coaching Milan. Some posters show their age with their stupid comments.
Right…. It calling comments “stupid” shows maturity? LOL!!!
are we signing a coach or the player. what does his player achievements mean to us
Milan hasn’t chosen a coach yet, in case if you hadn’t noticed. Maybe stop clowning until after they pick someone?
At least it has a semblance of a plan. Still think we should do one more year with Pioli though.
Motta had just one good season, Sérgio Conceição will stay at Porto, the Zerbi for all the hype, still has certain issues with his game, Conte’s demands, eccentricity and volatile nature would have imploded the team within a season with the kind of management and policy we have.
Any one who watches and understands football should notice the trajectory football is heading to, right now we need a Coach who understands our league, knows the club, is brave enough to use our youth, and is flexible in thought both in the technical and tactical aspects of our players and how we play, and is a fighter with an unshakeable will to win….
LMAO
“Coach who understands our league, knows the club, is brave enough to use our youth, and is flexible in thought both in the technical and tactical aspects of our players and how we play, and is a fighter with an unshakeable will to win ”
Gimme one name ? ZERO !!
Unless the management can bring Kloop, Enough with these mediocre coach
Alright, Fonseca proved that he understand non of that when he was in Roma. So he is a very bad choise, tnx for confirming that, now you can take a brake.
Welcome mediocrity of moneyball moncada
Promote Abate as Manager and close this. We are not getting any big name Manager, let’s be real
Dense…
Motta!!!
The only good candidate!
And bring Zirkzee and Sesko.
One day Mbappé 😉
Gallardo is the clever move…as per usual we won’t spend for quality using the moneybollocks principle
Anyone else think we will have more than one manager next season? 😂😂
How is it clever? The man has ZERO European experience.
How is it a debacle? You do know most clubs don’t sign new coaches before the end of the season, right? The only reason Liverpool did was because Klopp announced his retirement six months ago.
The morale of the story is don’t believe half these stories that get published. At some point RDZ was so heavily punted that the only obstacle was the release clause in his contract. Now that he is available he is not even being considered. Was Milan really after him or was he a media creation. And here we are debating the positives and negatives of coaches that Milan could not give a damn about. So let’s spare ourselves the headache and wait for news to break.
I’m sorry but what are we actually ment to believe anymore ??
Motta/xavi
De zerbi
Conceicao
Conte then the rest. It’s really not hard
How can anyone defend Fonseca? He finished 5 and 7 with Roma and is tied for 3rd in France. Pathetic.
Actually he’s now 4th in France and will have to play CL preliminary qualifications
Im waiting for very long times (for years) to welcome who is our next coach…. Just to seeing this, from all those coach and now the worst can happened to us?, i know everytime we appointed a new head coach its means we r betting for our future, but this is too hard to accept, at least for me, idk about you guys
We clearly aren’t getting an elite coach, so if we can’t get Gallardo I really wouldn’t be against Pirlo….Ancelotti wasn’t spectacular before Milan, Pirlo is a smart guy, he’s a club legend. I’d rather take a punt on him than Fonseca or Van Bommel
Fonseca has been a coach for 17 years and never won or achieved anything important. His “experience” in Serie A is concluded to finishing 5 and 7 with Roma and being beaten 0-3 by Spezia in Coppa Italia.
How can anyone seriously defend him? It’s a candidate that might be considered by Fiorentina or Torino, not AC Milan.
PATHETIC
Club ownership proves again how serious they are and what image they have for milan. Lets bring in a yes man and start up the talent factory so we can make money.
Blows my mind how many on here take the media narratives and headlines as Gospel and continue criticizing the club for what the Media say they will do…
Has the club done anything to quiet this rumors, by actually proving it.
Until the club steps up, the rumors will continue and the wordings will continue.
De Zerbi can be the next AC Milan coach replace Pioli. Trust me hehe…
Van Bommel pourrait nous faire des saisons a la Xabi Alonso a l’heure actuelle il fait partie du gratin des meilleurs entraîneurs or il y a quelques temps personne ne le connaissait en tant que coach
If these two are the only candidates then better keep Pioli. We are ending this season with 77 points, second place, Champions League qualification and remember that many important players were injured for month, two or even three months this season. Yes, Pioli is certainly not a genius but he is not the weakest link in the team. With 4 quality new players we can compete for a title. And if we don’t make it at least we will play CL again for sure. Did you all forgot that we were not part of CL for 10 years!?
Changing the current coach just for the sake of changing him will not do much if you don’t bring a real replacement.
Milan should be on the lookout for a more worthy, prestigious name in coaching.
