Tuttosport: Duarte, Musacchio on the fringes as Milan’s No.1 defensive target emerges

By Oliver Fisher -

Directors Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara are working on Milan’s transfer market, and the defensive department will command their focus.

According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Alessio Romagnoli, Simon Kjaer and Matteo Gabbia are almost certain to remain into next season, but that leaves Leo Duarte and Mateo Musacchio whom there are doubts over.

In fact, either the Brazilian or the Argentine is destined to leave in the coming weeks. A choice has not yet been made, but it is more likely to be Musacchio who goes as he does not want to accept a role on the bench.

Regardless of who leaves, a new signing will arrive. The first name on the list is Nikola Milenkovic of Fiorentina, a specific request from Pioli who has already worked with the Serbian when he was manager of La Viola.

Pioli admires his flexibility since he can play both centre-back and right-back, and he is a player who of course knows Serie A well having been established for three seasons now despite being just 22.
