Tuttosport: Furlani addressed ‘astonished’ Milan squad after Maldini’s sacking – what he said

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani addressed the squad yesterday to reassure them after the sackings of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara.

According to this morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via SempreMilan.it), there were some ‘astonished reactions’ to the farewell of Maldini and Massara coming from most of the Rossoneri players.

For this reason, the CEO Furlani wanted to personally reassure all the players and thus spoke to them yesterday. He reiterated that the will of the ownership RedBird Capital is to be competitive in all competitions and Maldini’s farewell is part of this improvement process.

It is a concept also expressed by Paolo Scaroni in the interview he gave to today’s edition of Corriere della Sera too, during which he revealed that Maldini felt ‘uncomfortable’ with the idea of changing the way he works to facilitate the involvement of others.

Tuttosport add that Furlani also reminded each of the players that they are contracted to Milan and that the priority for everyone must be the good of the club.

  1. So he is being cocky and reminding them that are under contract(cheap ass contracts for what our best players can get elsewhere) we did spit on Milans culture and tradition with Maldini being sacked like Anceloti rightfully said in an interview. So we have no soul and no money as well. Great job Gerry…how in the hell did u become a billionaire? Pathetic

    1. That was my first impression too, but then again, it might just be media invention what was said. I just can’t believe he really talked to them about contract. Telling them that Maldini also want Milan to succeed will be more impactful that contract threat.

  2. “the good of the club” they said . The good for the club is to improve your squad with the best players or the best talents in the world and of course ALWAYS COMPETE IN ALL COMPETITION YOUR TEAM IS NO MATTER WHAT but if u put lower budget how many good additions are left ? So you guys really want to cover your asses for the most disrespectful thing to do in Italian team you all of you must resign and bring the Bahrain people because they wanted to pay all the money without loan wow can you imagine bring them not the brokies so if you guys wanted what’s good for the team then you should have bring Bahrain people

    1. LOL. Some people have no idea about the finances these days. It’s only PSG & ManCity who are allowed to have “cash injection” by the owner (and even then they’re doing it via shady sponsorship deals which might bring troubles in the future). Even if Milan were bought by a multi-billionaire who gave 1Bn€ to transfers it would only cause issues with the UEFA.

Serie A isn’t covered in wealth. The clubs need to fix their budgets. And Milan has done that. Next step is the new stadium which would allow spending 50-100M€ on player transfers each year. There is no other way.

      1. LOL do you think all the fans here want a 100 M budget for next transfer window? all we want is a bigger budget, and we have the reasons why,we got to the UCL 3 years in a row now,not to mention the semifinal, plus we are in a much bettter financial situation comparing to other serie A clubs..so it is only logical if we want bigger budget, not a measle 35 M euros, who do we want to buy with 35 M? anothet messias? LOL

  3. Cheap as contracts, they should be lucky they earn those millions, their are billions of fans who are the ones that pay their bills don’t won’t earn up to €100k throughout their lifetime, but they come out every week to spend their hard earned money, support and cheer them on, so the players should respect the clubs wishes and play well for the fans..

  4. The man child has spoken blah blah like anyone would care what he has to say, these clowns can take a football and head out and play a football match on the highway for what i care and i doubt many people would step on their breaks,

  5. Mostlikely he said blah blah bla, blah blah. That damage control is not going very well for these people. When the season starts, they will know how badly they messed up by not investing a more appropriate amount and firing maldini. Maybe they can make everyone laugh again with that “goofball” strategy. Feel bad for ally fellow milan fans, we can’t catch a break. #redbirdout

    1. Yeah they pretty much opened pandoras box in regard of the majority of fans but they doesnt seem to akowledge or realize it and will have a difficult time onwards.
When they bought the club i said i wouldnt come with my judgement before this summer and they have by no means done anything that convinces me and by now i doubt they ever will.

  6. So basically, he spoke to the players and said we fired someone who ACTUALLY wanted to win because we want to win? LOL

Good job Furlani, Good Job LMFAO

  7. If it’s true that he brought up to the team that they’re under contract that shows how damaging and how split the group is. Like they don’t already know what a contract means, it’s more of a threat.

  8. Well if furlani did said about contract than its a big middle finger up your and your Yankee freak a$$e$…..you guys are broke as hell who doesn’t even have 250 networth….I will wait till the season starts and trust me who ever is praising redbird will be the first in lines cursing them……you can’t raise salary bar and then expect players to extend….you cry paying 35m on cdk as flop earning millions 100 plus from champions league…..yes Maldini was rigid I agree but what furlani said about employees and contract statement is lowest of the low and recipe for disaster….it might be media hype but that’s totally incorrect….by contract it doesn’t mean you own them

  9. I am not sure what to add to this other than the audacity and the lack of respect not only for what Maldini represents, but for Milan as a club, Milan fans. Not to mention Milan greats like Baresi, Costacurta, Albertini and others who Milan was more than just a club, it was family. This will be an eye opener to let idiots that have zero respect for customs and tradition take control of a club this big. Fulani and Co hasn’t contributed anything to Milan that I can think of other than been in position of power.

  10. Hilarious. “Hey guys your all under contract so….” Be professional. Hmmmm kinda like how professional it was for Furlani and Scaroni to make public statements bashing Maldini as being “uncomfortable” working with a team and being power hungry??? LOL. Classy
