Tuttosport: Ibrahimovic bit back at Gazidis in pre-Genoa meeting – his renewal is on hold

By Oliver Fisher -

CEO Ivan Gazidis and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will talk about a contract renewal, a report claims, but discussions are on hold for now.

There is a lot of uncertainty at Milan currently after the fallout between Gazidis and Zvonimir Boban, which led to the latter being sacked from his position. This uncertainty extends to members of the squad too given the high possibility that a new manager will be coming in, and in particular Zlatan Ibrahimovic whose deal expires in June.

According to Tuttosport (via MilanLive), it remains to be seen whether Ibrahimovic will still be here as the Swede has many doubts. The farewell of Boban has troubled him, while Paolo Maldini’s departure would also make him reflect.

The paper claims that Zlatan and Ivan Gazidis had an exchange of views during the CEO’s speech before the final training session ahead of Milan-Genoa finishing. The Rossoneri No.21 would have answered on a couple of occasions not hiding his point of view on some aspects.

Gazidis highly values Ibrahimovic both personally and technically and knows his stay would have positive consequences for the club’s economic activity. He would like to renew his contract, but the negotiation is not easy.

The terms for the extension until 2021 had already been defined and the striker is unlikely to step back on his salary. It will be discussed in more concrete terms towards the end of the season, when Gazidis should have a more solid idea of what kind of project he can pitch to the 38-year-old.
