Tuttosport: Milan enjoying the new Leao – he is freer and more deadly

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan changed a lot during the summer with 10 new signings and many exits too, but they won the first three matches of the season and Rafael Leao appears to be benefitting.

Today’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) talks about Leao’s role in this team. During Milan’s victory against Roma, he shone not only because of the beautiful goal he scored, but also because he was totally dominant against Zalewski and Celik.

Contrary to what happened in the past, Milan started to hammer Roma in the opposite lane, getting some joy down the right flank thanks to the movement of Calabria, Loftus-Cheek and Pulisic trio.

In doing so, the left flank opened up with Leao appearing calmer and freer. At that moment his game began, made up of devastating accelerations that Celik could only stop by cutting down the Portuguese.

Rafa’s surges were a clear sign of Milan’s technical and physical superiority compared to their opponents. The overhead kick goal is something he has been trying for a ‘long time’ by his own admission.

Tomori’s red card made things difficult, but as the seconds wound down at the end of the game Leao was among the most animated players on the bench.

“I’m here to help the team on and off the field. There are also the others on the bench who were involved in the match, it was a moment of suffering and off the pitch we had to help everyone to win,” he said.

“I am very happy with the whole team because we did a great job. I’ll think about the derby after the break. It was an important match.

“We did everything to win, we controlled the game, we dribbled well and we deservedly scored. When there were 10 of us left, the team played an incredible match.”
