Tuttosport: ‘The Maginot Line’ – Milan want to fortify midfield with two Frenchmen

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are looking at two reinforcements to increase the quality of the midfield and the French contingent could grow as a result, a report claims.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) talks about the ‘Maginot Line’ in its title to describe the Milan management’s interest in two French midfielders who could add some pace, muscle and quality on the ball.

They are Adrien Rabiot – currently a free agent after his deal with Juventus ran out – and Youssouf Fofana who has just entered the final year of his contract with Monaco. Both were at the European Championship with Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez, but were knocked out in the semis.

As mentioned, the has not renewed with Juve and he is being pursued by some big clubs, but the Rossoneri are trying. For the latter, Monaco are asking for €25m but negotiations are open and there may be some wiggle room.

The subtitle then explains what Milan’s plans are for the midfield: ‘The project is to form a strong midfield with Reijnders and Loftus-Cheek’. And then a note is added on the attacker : ‘Next week will be decisive for Morata’.

For those unaware, the Maginot Line was a line of concrete fortifications, obstacles and weapon installations built by France in the 1930s to deter invasion by Nazi Germany and force them to move around.

    1. Maginot Line is actually succesful based on its purpose, forcing the German to attack via Belgium instead of head on to France so France’s defense troops have more time to prepare.

It is similar to midfielders, they help defenders by slowing down opponent or forcing the opponent to attack using less favourable route.

        1. Without it, Germany would have captured France easily, they would have much of their of troops intact hence better prepared to face the Allied forces in the Battle of Normandy. Don’t underestimate its role in WW2.

  1. Very poor choice of comparison if the aim is bring “reassurance”. “For those unaware, the Maginot Line was a line of concrete fortifications, obstacles and weapon installations built by France in the 1930s to deter invasion by Nazi Germany and force them to move around.” yes that one definetly went at the time.

  2. Reijnders, Rabiot, and Fofana would give us the strongest midfield trio in serie a imo. Let’s get it done. Also, I would consider shifting RLC to the striker position in case Rabiot indeed arrives. The guy definitely has the physique, and he seems to be much better at scoring than playmaking or dictating control in the midfield

  3. And just like the Germans just went through Belgium and around the whole Maginot line (who proved to be worthless because of that), opposing teams will walk around Milans midfield on the flanks if we dont get proper fullbacks apart from Theo and Calabria. We need to sign a better RB then Calabria who can be a backup, and a good deputy for Theo.

  4. I’ll say this: quit wasting time, if ya’ll want Fofana, go get him, don’t waste time and create another feuilleton with stupid reductions.

  5. The Maginot Line? Really?

The line has since become a metaphor for expensive efforts that offer a false sense of security.[1] – Wikipedia.

This has got to be a backhanded compliment from Tuttosport lol.

  6. We are loosing patience with the management for failing to sign a player until this point.Get Caencelo on rb,Fofana dm,Gironas Ukraine striker and probably Tommy Abram for backup,we need young and energetic players.
    Thanks.
