Tuttosport: Mandzukic makes a positive return – the striker has overtaken Leao in Pioli’s hierarchy

By Oliver Fisher -

Mario Mandzukic has a real chance of overtaking Rafael Leao in Stefano Pioli’s hierarchy, according to a report.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes this morning, against Genoa Mandzukic may have failed to score but he somehow propitiated Scamacca’s decisive own goal. The Croatian striker also impressed with his attitude and the presence he showed on the pitch after many weeks of absence.

The half hour played against the Rossoblu has changed the hierarchies in attack, as per the paper. If for one reason or another Ibrahimovic is still missing, Leao will no longer be the back-up striker and instead it will be Mario now. He will be the first change, the player who will have to try to help Pioli win the games necessary to secure a top four spot.

The future of the former Juventus and Bayern Munich striker remains uncertain heading into the final seven games of the season because while Milan have not closed the doors to a renewal, they expect an important contribution.
