Tuttosport: Milan desperate to sign a centre-back as Maldini studies two Milenkovic alternatives

By Oliver Fisher -

Milan are continuing to be very active on the market and are aiming to close the purchase of a new central defender as soon as possible.

According to Monday’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews), director Paolo Maldini knows how much a new player is needed in that area of the pitch because for the moment both Duarte and Gabbia have not given the certainties of Kjaer and Romagnoli.

The management are struggling to break down Fiorentina’s wall to land either of Nikola Milenkovic or German Pezzella, for whom La Viola continues to ask for too much, so there are two alternatives in mind.

The first is Kristoffer Ajer of Celtic, who want at least €20million guaranteed to let him go, while Milan are more inclined to close the deal on a paid loan with and option to buy that could become an obligation under certain conditions. Celtic, as we know, are a rather expensive shop and will not give up their star man easily.

Meanwhile, rumours about Milan’s interest in Wesley Fofana will not go away in France. Despite Leicester being on pole after presenting Saint-Etienne with an offer of €28m, the contacts between the Milan management and the agents of the players have never stopped.

Regardless of how the Europa League preliminaries go, Milan need a new defender to face this long season because Kjaer and Romagnoli alone are not enough.
