Tuttosport: Top four and trophy target – Milan’s ‘eight days of fire’ begins

Any week that has three games is important in the scheme of a season, but for AC Milan there are eight days upcoming which will be huge in determining which way their 2023-24 campaign goes.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) talks about the ‘eight days of fire’ that await for Milan, and it starts today in the league with the lunchtime kick-off against Empoli away from home.

Stefano Pioli’s side begin with the mission of consolidating third place and perhaps nibbling a little bit at Inter and Juventus who are ahead in the standings, especially after Bologna and Fiorentina dropped points earlier in the round and with Roma-Atalanta tonight.

Everything will start from today at the Stadio Carlo Castellani, with an important hurdle to overcome: Milan haven’t won away in the league for exactly three months with the last time being on 7 October against Genoa.

Pioli also declared in his pre-match press conference: “Starting the week well would be important for many reasons. We want to get a lot of points in the league, but then there are many things to do on the pitch.

“What matters is finishing more than our opponents, defending better, try to win the match. If we manage to put together convincing performances it means that the difficult period is behind us.”

What follows today’s game is a Coppa Italia quarter-final against Atalanta, with the cup a legitimate target given Inter and Napoli are out. Then, Roma come to San Siro in one week for a game that has big top four ramifications.
