Tuttosport: Milan evaluating which striker to sign with three stand-out candidates

By Oliver Fisher -

After missing out on Marcus Thuram who will soon complete a move to Inter, AC Milan are weighing up a number of alternative striker targets.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes this morning, there are three names that stand out above all as Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada aim to give Stefano Pioli an alternative to Olivier Giroud.

The first is Alvaro Morata, who knows Italy and Serie A well. He recently renewed his contract with Atletico Madrid at a salary of €8m net per season which would have to be renewed, but there is apparently a €20-22m release clause in it.

Gianluca Scamacca is the second name. He was held back by injuries in his first season at West Ham and would be sold by the Hammers, but they want €40m in order to consider a permanent exit. Furthermore, there is competition from Roma who are his preferred destination given he is a boyhood fan.

Finally, Lois Openda is a profile that meets all the requirements sought by Milan, but he has a fairly high cost. RC Lens have set the price at €40-50m given he scored 21 goals in 42 official games last season.

    1. To be fair i think its more about who is willingly selling to us at the fee/formula we will cough up with,

      1. Our rep in the market is in tatters over last few seasons, we are just too much hassle to deal with, to be fair most Seria a sides are, always looking for a loan with an option to buy never an obligation and then haggling on who will pay the wages as well.

And then trying to bring the price down even more when they finally decide to buy the player after 2-3 years on loan.

Why should clubs sell to us!!!

        1. Yeah and that is also down to fees or formulas as i mentioned because milan will still be able to attract the players but they might not be able to afford them though. If i were at the helm of chelsea or barca i would be somewhat careful lending us players unless its with an obligation to buy.

  1. If Morata cost 20m then it’s a big No.

Would be better to try and sign Openda/Balogun. Or even, oh God’s sake, Icardi.

  2. Inter has Thuram, Martinez, Corea & still trying to get Lukaku & we are thinking of Scamacca or Morata who hasn’t scored more than 15 goals in his prime? There’s something seriously wrong with this club but then again, I remember many Milan fans didn’t want Arab/ oil money because of human rights & yet we get bullied in the market by Arab owners who own English clubs huh?😂😂
Please get Icardi, that’s the only proven striker in my opinion that can be on par with Inter’s…he was a night mare to Milan in all his season with Inter & I don’t understand why he’s been available & no one is going after him..just unbelievable

    1. Correa is a flop, Thuram is yet to be proven at big clubs, and Lukaku had a sub-par season.. Only Martinez is a guarantee! So relax! It’s not that, they have a star studded squad upfront..😂

      1. Compared to Giroud, Origi (for now), Lazetic, and Columbo……I’ll take Inter’s strikers compared to ours any day of the week!

Let’s compare the other Big-4/5 Strikers going into the season and tell me who ranks below us right now?

        Lazio – Immobile, Pedro, Aberto
Juve – Chiesa, Vhalovic, Milik, Jorge, DiMaria, Kean, Soule
Inter – Dzeko, Martinez, Correa, Thurman, Lukaku (assuming he re-signs)
Napoli – Osimhen, Lozano, Politano, Simeone, Raspadori, Kvaratskhelia
Roma – Abraham, Belotti, Solbakken, Dybala, SES

        Milan – ?????

Sorry, there has to be major investments immediately to support Giroud/Leao because they can’t score all the goals nor play all the games!

        1. If you’re including the likes of Chiesa, El Shawarey, Kvaratskelia etc then Milan’s attack includes Leao.

          So:

Milan – Giroud, Leao, Rebic, Origi, Saelemakers, Messias, de Ketelaere

Yes, some of those aren’t looking good in terms of form, but in salary I think this matches a lot of the above. Add Pulisic or another decent right-wing and our options aren’t too bad.

Without Rebic and Origi moving on, there’s a lot of salary tied up there (7.5m net per season).

          1. Some of them? It is literally Leao for himself. Even most of Giroud goals came from Leao creating them. You can replace Giroud with almost anyone as long as Leao provides.

        2. You should read the news a little bit more. First of all, Dzeko already left Inter. INTER is hardly buying Lukaku back. Di Maria is gone from Juventus too. Some of those names whom you have mentioned have a lot of transfer rumors, including Vlahovic, Osimhen, and even Bellotti. The market just starts tomorrow and it concludes in September. So, there is a lot to see yet.

        3. Aside from inter that got the better of us last season, we have beaten or draw with the rest with their strikers, so calm down.
Milan just need few strength players to outplay Europe.

Or let say they have a belated squad, and they did their bit, how about bringing in more legs in….
Milan is Milan and the club and fans are different…. Respect…. Emmanuel

    2. For the same reason he is not well liked in albiceleste, his affair with Wanda.

Who would want to play with someone without character ?

Leave the scum where he is and go for someone else.

  3. To be honest, much as I’d like Scamacca, I don’t think any of those are realistic.

I quite like the idea of Morata, but he’s too expensive. Unless he falls out with Simeone and will do one year on loan at 50% salary, he’s not worth it.

Scamacca would be interesting and big potential but I can’t see any club spending big on him without a loan first and if West Ham do allow a dry loan it’ll be Roma he goes to cover for Abraham’s injury.

Openda just isn’t realistic. Lens made good money from Fofana going to waste his career in Saudi Arabia and they don’t need to sell, so unless big money comes in from Saudi Arabia or England they’ll hold onto him for their UCL campaign.

Retegui sounds like he already has a deal with Inter, so they might have three forwards in Martinez, Thuram and Retegui.

After that, who’s available for a reasonable price (

    1. I mean you can say Fofana will waste his career but Al-Nassr has a better team than Milan, at least midfield and attack.

Attack will be Giroud and Colombo as it seems now.

  4. Who is willin’ to sign with us?

    Dunno.

Maybe someone who’s not an a Maldini obsessed dvmbass fanboy, for instance…

But anyway… I fvckin hate the ‘silly season’ see you by the beggining of the next season.

    1. I thought u said you were taking a break for a second time on SM? 🤔😅 They just lured you on didn’t they 😏

  5. Same names… day in and day out. No new info. once midfield is sorted out, hopefully then they will hunt for a striker that DOESN’T include the names above.

  6. Or move CDK in the striker position, he is not an AM any way. Retegui is a good striker too who is avaliable for 18mil.

  7. I think it’s reported that morata now has a buy out clause of just 10 million, so morata would represent the biggest and best bargain of the market , also as back up to morata and giroud openda , pulisic, and Adams T from wloves ,castroveli, Carlos Perez should be brought in they are all cheap .
