Tuttosport: Milan monitor Feyenoord defender amid Theo Hernandez fears

Theo Hernandez has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the world at AC Milan but the management want to be prepared for any eventuality and they are thus eyeing his replacement.

According to Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan), Milan are admirers of Quilindschy Hartman, a 22-year-old who plays left-back for Feyenoord. At the moment the line is that the club are looking for a deputy to Theo, hence the links with players like Juan Miranda of Real Betis.

Next summer could bring some surprises in terms of big sales. At the beginning of June, no one could have imagined Sandro Tonali’s departure towards Newcastle United, but the offer that came forward was simply too good to refuse and allowed for 10 signings to be made.

Theo could follow the path taken last year by the Italian midfielder because the Frenchman falls into the same category of players always monitored by the top clubs around Europe who are willing to invest considerable sums.

Milan are keen on Hartman but he is seen as a deputy to Theo and not a direct replacement at present. Hernandez’s contract situation means the management can breathe easily, as he renewed last year until 2026.

  1. I guess his performances are affected by the 4-3-3 and the lousy midfield, Leao is also less impactful this year overall. As for his attitude, I think he’s always praising the club, he’s vice captain and a good teammate. Also he’s top 3 at his position when he’s given the opportunity to shine.

It’s crazy how fans don’t care about getting rid of our very best players. Two months ago people wanted to sell Tomori. Who cares about the money (that would be spent on another rebuilding), let’s keep our key players and win trophies ffs

  2. Its not all about players. Its about tactics and team spirit. If you compare quality of the players by position we are clear of Inter in almost every departmant: Tomori, Thiaw, Kalulu better then Acerbi, Bastoni, Devrij. Fullbacks wise Theo is better then Dimarco. Mkhitarian worst then Bennacer and Loftus. And attack they get the win but doesnt matter, u get my point. Its not alwasy about players, its about what they bring to the table in longer period of time. If we get the chance to get a better coach who knows what his doing, im not against selling Theo or even Leao, judging by his performances recently. Tbh, we can get around 170mil combined for those 2 and with coach that knows what his doing plus budget for next season we are looking at around 250mil budget. Thats a game changer and i think that we would profit from it.

  3. wow, Tomori, Thiaw and Kalulu better than Acerbi, Bastoni and De Vrij ?? this is the same Inter that scored 5 against our defence (without Tomori), and a Milan defence that has conceded 7 goals in the last 6 matches compared to Inters defence conceding 2 goals in 6 matches ??
i respectfully disagree with you there, yes Tomori is having a better season, but Thiaw is up and down and Kalulu is nowhere near good enough, i would happily sell any of the 3 and re-invest, preferably in Scalvini.

  4. Just think about Hakan being a better player at inter than he ever was at Milan and you’d get his point. Individually we’re better than inter except maybe in the striking department but collectively they’re better and part of it is down to the coach as M4L stated. I don’t care what anyone says but do you think even Haaland will score more than 20 in this team? When Ibra joined amidst our resurgence, it seemed like we had a strategy but right now when you watch the team it’s almost like they’re going through the motions and just hoping on Leao’s brilliance or Theo’s runs or whatever. Honestly, I don’t know what our strategy is that’s why it’s hard to get excited about the names being linked because the honest fans here know that KdB himself won’t be able to pick a pass in this team.

I’d love to keep all the best and replace all the krunices etc with better ones but I’m also a realist and know that in the summer one or key players will leave. Theo *might* be the easiest to replace.

  6. “we are clear of Inter in almost every departmant: Tomori, Thiaw, Kalulu better then Acerbi, Bastoni, Devrij. Fullbacks wise Theo is better then Dimarco.”

I don’t know what your medication is but I want those too! Next you’re going to say Krunic is better than Lautaro, eh?

  7. Theo had been on a decline since last season. Something is off about him. Whether it’s Maldini leaving or lack of alternatives on the LW and he is mentally exhausted.

Zoey has a tattoo shop in Milan and they have two kids, so I don’t think it’s so much Theo needing a scenery change… Not sure though.

  8. Is “Quilindschy” a football player or an ex-convict?

Also, why are direct replies to other posts suddenly not working? Sempremilan, what’s the deal with this?

  9. @ACM1899: I’m pretty sure Maldini leaving did impact Theo’s mentality, he was pretty upset about it during the summer. Also but this is my personal theory, I suspect he’s not in good terms with Pioli anymore (Calabria, Giroud and Leao did show moments of disagreement with Pioli, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume Theo as well has problems). Also since we don’t have leaders in our club anymore with Ibra gone, there is no one to oversee him and Leao.
But aside from that, Theo doesn’t seem to do well as an inverted fullback in a 4-3-3. Him tucking into the midfield and receiving the ball with his back to the opposition limits his forward runs and presence in the left wing. Theo likes open spaces to run and either pass, cross or shoot, and with our new 4-3-3, he simply can’t do it anymore.

  10. @Bartholomeo
I am all for keeping our best players and adding to them to build a great team.
The issue is this owner thinks otherwise.

I have always been a huge Theo fan, that is all the more reason it is so frustrating to watch him this season. Very little work rate, no thrusting runs, defensive lapses, arguing with refs to the point of suspension and last but not least sitting on his ars* pretending to be injured while his man scores against us and costs us the game. That is unforgivable.
He has been nowhere near world class this season, so either he bucks up his game or he gets sold before he’s worth f all

  11. The Redbird model is to sell players for profit and reinvest the sum – just as we did with Tonali. So one of Mike, Theo or Leao WILL be sold this summer. Seems inevitable. Only way to avoid it is if a Saudi club offers huge money for Bennacer – which is possible and the Turks snag Krunic for 10M. Otherwise in order to buy players we need to sell as our budget is only 30-40M each season for now.

  12. Milan’s budget is not 30-40 million. This budget was only in case of Maldini staying in the club, as the management did not trust Maldini to spend big money after his disastrous transfers during the prior window. Our budget will be around 60-90 million depending on what is needed. Management have shown willingness to be flexible in that area…

  13. @Mickey “the management did not trust Maldini to spend big money after his disastrous transfers during the prior window.”…..and the current management trust themselves to spend big money after their own disastrous transfers over the summer? Lol 😂

  14. @Milan4Life I get what you’re saying. Inzaghi is a superior coach to Pioli and thbway his team played they’re are top 3 imo in Europe after City and Bayern based on this year’s performances alone.

But having said that let’s not downplay the quality of their squad. You left out important players from you list. Barella alone is better than at least two out of our 3 mids COMBINED. Plus there’s Hakan who albeit a snake is quite good. Mikhi and Frattesi interchange but I’d prefer those two than Krunic and Musah with all due respect. Their attack with Lautaro and Thuram are definitely better than ours. This leaves defence, which only Tomori walks into Inter’s team. DeVrij is solid, so is Bastoni and Acerbi but TOGETHER they play well even if individually they’re not the best. And Dumfries constantly owns Theo in the derby, though overall Theo is better. On the flip side while Mike is better than Sommer, Sommer is very underrated (has been the best gk in Bundesliga for the last decade)
