Tuttosport: Milan lining up 18-goal Ligue 1 striker as Rebic replacement

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are expected to sign a new centre-forward during the summer transfer window and they have Lois Openda on their list of targets, a report claims.

Today’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) begins a report by stating that Ante Rebic’s farewell at the end of the season is becoming more and more likely given that he is having another sub-par season.

The Croatian, who has been at Milan since 2019, could return to Germany. His former club Eintracht Frankfurt as well as Wolfsburg are keen on him, which means that a replacement would be needed.

Given that Rebic was Rafael Leao’s deputy and an alternative to Olivier Giroud in the centre-forward role, it seems as though Lois Openda of RC Lens has ended up on the list of potential options.

The 23-year-old scored on Tuesday against Toulouse and moved onto 18 goals in Ligue 1 which is an impressive haul, and he seems to be a profile that would fit Milan’s project.

  1. Sell Rebic for 10 million and free almost 5 million in terms of gross salary.

Sell Origi for 10 million and free 5 million.

Sell Balo Toure for 3 million and free near 3 million.

Sell Adli for 5 to 7 million and free near 2 mil .

Sell Florenzi for 3 million and free 3 million of gross salary.

So you gain 30 million in terms of revenue of player sales, and you save extra 15 million in gross salary. You can bring Chaka Traore, El Hilali, Bozzolan all for free, and we will have same result next year in Serie A like this year.

It is pointless to have European garbage in team and give them salary for nothing

  2. So, if Rebic is a Leao and Giroud back up, and Openda would be coming to take his spot, who is coming to take Leao and Giroud spots?
If we don’t qualify for UCL next season, Leao, who still hasn’t agreed on a new contract, most likely will leave, and Giroud is 37 years old. How much longer are we going to rely on a 37 and 41 year old to be our strikers?
    We have so many needs.
    Back up left back.
    Left footed CB.
    Defensive midfielder.
Box to box midfielder that can hold on to the ball and actually have the ability to pass. None of our current midfielders can pass.
    Creative attacking midfielder.
A right winger. 4 years and counting, still waiting on Paolo to sign one.
A striker, who is born in this century and has the ability to outrun a turtle.
    A back up LW.
To address all those needs sales has to be made and since we have a SD that can’t sell water in the desert, everything starts with hiring an experienced and competent sporting director. Someone who is good at planning, negotiating contracts, buying, and i know this is a foreign concept for us Milan fans, SELLING players. No club can function properly when it only relies on the owners fronting money without any money coming in from sales. Even The richest clubs sell players to finance part of their purchases. ManCity bought Halland and Julian Alvarez last summer and at the end of the transfer window they were in plus because they sold players to buy players. Same with Napoli.

  3. I totally agree. we haven’t shown the ability to sell anyone. The only way we can free up some salary is for players to leave whose contracts are expiring. Without Champions League qualifications we can forget about investing in anyone. One of the mistake that we have made is that we haven’t given any primavera players a chance at all. How are you supposed to develop any players if they never get a chance? How has Adli not been able to get a single minute? You can’t convince me that he wouldn’t have offered a little more than CDK the last few weeks. Granted, I don’t see him every day in practice but what the hell has CDK been showing to deserve any playing time what so ever? Let’s face it, we do not have the money to buy any real players. the best we can hope for is to develop our primavera players and begin integrating them into our lineup, especially against bottom of the table teams.
