Tuttosport: Milan working on Maignan’s renewal but Chelsea could offer swap deal

AC Milan are looking to close the door on Chelsea’s attempts to try and sign Mike Maignan this summer, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) writes how Chelsea’s quest for a new starting goalkeeper has seen them cast their eyes on Milano, with Maignan and André Onana of Inter potential targets.

Maignan is universally recognised as one of the strongest goalkeepers in the world and is one of the leaders with Stefano Pioli’s squad, but with these big performances on the biggest stages comes the interest of many European clubs.

Giorgio Furlani, the Rossoneri CEO, would come to the negotiating table only if Chelsea put forward a bid of €80m in cash, or a cash some plus an interesting player or two in return.

However, in the meantime Milan have started talks to renew Maignan’s contract until 30 June 2028 but they are not in the decisive part of negotiations yet. The feeling is that the management are more concentrated on the transfer market.

Which counterparts could appeal? Milan are believed to have interest in both Carney Chukwuemeka and winger Christian Pulisic.

  1. I know we replaced Donnarumma with Magic Mike and it worked out just fine but… its very rare to find an elite GK with the right attitude and mix of skills, at such an affordable price. Moneyball might not save us here.

We shouldn’t be selling Maignan even for 80mn, I’m assuming the board thinks the same. Gk is such a crucial position and Chelsea didn’t even qualify for Europe.

Let them pay big money for Onana, don’t sell a lynchpin of the squad (unless he really does want to leave following Maldini’s sacking)

    1. Dont worry, neither Maignan is interested in other clubs nor he plays for money.
He will see the progress for next 2years, if its the team to win trophies(that Maldini assured) then he will renew or leave for free or just a year contract to select his destination.

      1. Enough for this ”plays for money” rubbish. If the club has no direction then it is not about money. If we’re not buying players, strengthening the team and challenging for major trophies, then the big names like Maignan, Theo and Leao should leave because the club is going nowhere.

  2. Thats awful if you sell or swap maignan witb pulisic or carney. Pulisic often injury and dont guarantee goal + asist on RW while carney still raw material that need 1-2 season to polished . I hope italian GK too as maignan replacement but right now it is bad time to sell starter player due to Maldini sacked

  3. Can’t think of a single player I want from their team now that Kanté went to SA. Maybe Mason Mount or Reece James :p But wouldn’t trade Mike for any of them.

  4. The real question is who to get if they sell Mike.
    Trubin form Shakhtar?
    Carnesecchi from atalanta?
    some x dude?

  5. Wow even other teams can see that our front staff is so dumb that they try to swap Mike for their useless players. I really hope Furlani is not that stupid.

  6. After sacking Maldini already? F*ck around long enough and find out. Cause fans will have you hanged by your balls. Mike is our leader back there, remember when he was out, we were out.

  7. 80m one day, 100m the next, whatever it’s all rumours.

However, I don’t care who you are, you listen to that kind of money for a keeper.

I hope it IS just click bait and he stays.

  8. It makes sense, give up a true leader and get a guy like Pulisic that will cry before and after matches because he doesn’t feel alright. Wow! I would take Pulisic only on loan, because he won’t be signed permanently after he has a mental breakdown, and that happens to him practically every season, maybe more than once. Just to avoid losing money for nothing. He can be talented as Messi and only 24, doesn’t mean anything. Mike shouldn’t be sold for under 100M. Cash, not 100M in mentally unstable players.

  9. Maignan is a one of a kind keeper who you don’t sell for 80 mil. He’s almost as good at blocking shots, defending corners and near post as Dida.
