AC Milan have made Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic their first choice target for the January window, according to a report.
The Rossoneri were repeatedly linked with a move for Milenkovic throughout the summer mercato but were ultimately unable to conclude a deal with Fiorentina who continued to persist with a high asking price.
According to Tuesday’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanLive), the 22-year-old remains Milan’s primary target to reinforce the defensive department and as a result negotiations will reopen in the January window, with Milan ready to fight with Inter for Milenkovic.
La Viola still want €40million for the Serbia international but Milan do have some money having failed to purchase a defender in the market in January, so they could decide to invest heavily in Milenkovic.
Much will depend on the situation at the Rossoneri: if Milan are close to the Champions League and have passed the group stages of the Europa League, then an outlay would be more likely. It would also become more possible if Leo Duarte and/or Mateo Musacchio were to leave, the report adds.
