AC Milan are in the market for a new midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window and an old flame is still burning, a report claims.
According to today’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanLive), Milan are still interested in the former Udinese man Seko Fofana who is now shining at RC Lens in Ligue 1, who signed him back in 2020 for a figure of around €8m.
Fofana would be a very useful profile for Milan who have not really replaced Franck Kessie since he left last summer, given he can play as a deeper midfielder, a mezzala and an attacking midfielder.
The Franco-Ivorian is the type of midfield player that Stefano Pioli likes a lot given he is physically strong and could guarantee Milan a triple role, while he also has end product as the 8 goals and 5 assists in 37 appearances this season show.
An obstacle could be the asking price of €25-30m given his contract expires in 2025 so Lens still have leverage. However, qualifying for the next Champions League could guarantee a signing of this caliber.
It must be asked whether RedBird Capital would spend more than €20m for a 28-year-old player though, but if Pioli and Maldini were to convince them he would be worth it then things could take off.
Snap him up. He is a machine
He would be the perfect signing for what the midfield needs, but i doubt there is much of a chance of this happening.
Lens asked PSG for 40 mil last summer and Fofana is having an even better season this year than he had last season leading Lens to 2nd place in Ligue 1 and are going to play in UCL next season, while we are on the outside looking in right now when it comes to UCL.
This one is great player one of the best midfielders
I doubt 25m euro enough to convince Lens . AC Milan already missed chance signing him when he was in udinese for 8m euro
I know Milan won’t sign him up but my God this player would solve 70% of the problems we’re facing currently. I’d easily splash 45m for this guy.
I think he is a copy of Yaya Toure, very strong and faster, we need strength in our midfield
I’m sure a rich club will pick him up.
If we ‘re gona splash that that much money, target Ibrahim Sangaré instead, soloely because he’s younger and could be deemed more of a worthy investment.
You are correct. Ibrahim Sangaré has a very intriguing profile. Still young.
