Tuttosport: Milan ready to up their offer in bid to keep Leao as demands increase

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan seem willing to raise their offer to Rafael Leao in a bid to fend off the interest that is gathering from clubs abroad, a report claims.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes that one of the very first tasks that the new ownership RedBird Capital – through directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara – will have to tackle will be linked to the renewal of Rafael Leao.

There is no doubting that he was one of the drivers of Milan in their Scudetto win last season, and he was even awarded the title of being the Serie A MVP having made major contributions in the final part of the campaign.

The Portuguese winger has a contract expiring in 2024, and there has already been in conversation with the Rossoneri management for some time through his entourage about extending that. After his exploits last season the demands regarding salary have increased, but the club seem willing to move towards what he is asking for so as not to run the risk of losing such a fundamental and talented player.

  1. I really hope he stays for long time but I start getting Donna/Kessie vibes in this case… It takes far too long, it became already a saga.
Of course he has every right to ask whatever he believes he can get. But the club has also the right not to lose him for free.
It would be a huge mistake to start the new season with him not having renewed. He either renews (hopefully) or be sold this summer already.

  2. This is the problem for Milan now. As soon as players go up a level we can’t offer them the wages of richer clubs so they leave. Milan are now going to be stuck between being decent and good but never as brilliant as in the past. Leao has been linked with Real,Man City and PSG and we can’t compete with them in either wages or the chance to win the Champions League.

  3. Make another offer, if it’s not enough then start looking for as buyer. His value will never be higher than it is this summer so don’t let another one leave so his agent can get a bigger cheque.

    1. Actually, this is the problem with the agents. They receive the biggest commission when players was signed without transaction fee. When players are signed as free agents, than their representative agent earn the most. That’s why we have this summer to resolve the issues with Leao. If he doesn’t sign this summer extension than next year he will be at his last of the contact and the value of any transfer will be less than that of this summer.
I would say, give him the 6mil he deserves them. If don’t want to go higher and met his demands sell him as fast as possible. Stop losing money for nothing.
