Tuttosport: Milan targeting Basel defender who came through Roma’s academy

AC Milan are looking for a new left-back to become the deputy to Theo Hernandez and the signing could arrive from Switzerland, a report claims.

Milan have already made five signings this summer with Marco Sportiello, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Luka Romero, Christian Pulisic and Tijjani Reijnders through the door, while Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze are expected to follow.

However, Tuttosport (via MilanNews) report that Milan’s summer window is not over yet because they want at least one midfielder and a left-back who can fulfil the task of deputy to Theo Hernandez, given Fode Ballo-Toure is destined to leave.

The profile identified by the Rossoneri is that of Riccardo Calafiori who came through the academy as AS Roma and has also played for Genoa. He has been at Basel for one season, where he played 23 times.

The Rossoneri are finalising the details of the offer to be presented to Milan but there is the belief that they can close quickly.

  1. Ballo Toure out for 4mn and this guy in for 2mn helps with the homegrown status. Might not get the headlines but its smart business if we can pull it off.

One of the criticisms of our otherwise good mercato so far is lack of Italians… not purely for romantic notions of loyalty but also for UEFA squad list conditions.

This move (plus Sportiello replacing Tatarusanu earlier) is an efficient way to rectify that 👏

    1. Yes, and with Calafiori in we will be able to offload Caldara.

Since currently we only have 8 homegrown player, 4 club and 4 association trained. The bare minimum for Uefa regulation.
