Tuttosport: Milan want Arnautovic plus a young striker – the strategy and targets

By Oliver Fisher -

One of the areas that AC Milan must address in the summer is their attacking department and is seems Marko Arnautovic is on the list of targets.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) are reporting this morning, Arnautovic is one of the names that is being evaluated by the management. He has two years on his contract with Bologna and he could arrive as a rotation option, potentially to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Thiago Motta, the head coach of Bologna, actually opened up to the sale of Arnautovic yesterday stating: “If offers arrive for Arnautovic from a team aiming at Europe or playing there, it’s right that he goes.”

The Rossoneri are moving concretely for the 34-year-old Austrian and could soon also present their first offer, but they also know that he cannot be the only signing in attack and for this reason other younger centre-forwards are being monitored.

In particular, Milan’s eyes are on Ligue 1 where the likes of Lois Openda from RC Lens, Hugo Ekitike at PSG and Folarin Balogun of Stade Reims are playing and scoring regularly.

  1. I’m all for playing the younger players, but in this case, Cutrone, Colombo and Lazetic ae all below par. Marco Nasti isnt really showing it at Cosenza, and Francesco Camarda could be good, but i think he is 15.

There’s no point playing these players, Camarda excepted, as they are not good enough and wont get much better.

  2. Pato and Kaka were not strikers but they made Milan great. All we need is good skilled play makers. It’s better we should go back to Angelo Gabriel or Yeferson Soteldo. Let Maldini break his European boundaries and check out these good players in South America. If we don’t break our European boundaries, we shall never get another Kaka, sheva or Pato.

  3. Arnautovic is …okeish I guess (talent wise) as a backup, or even 3rd Striker.

My question is, whats the VFM for us?

I mean, Bologna payed 6 millions two yers ago.
Given that he has 2 more years of contract, we ‘re gonna do what?
Pay, lets say half the price (I doubt that especially Motta will not object to such a low price), in order for them to have their amortization balance to 0.
I repeat IF we pay only 3 millions (salary added as well).
And then what? Try again next year for TWO strikers, given that Giroud and Arnautovic will be heading out?

    I don’t get it…

  4. Milan need two quality young strikers who can also play on the wings. It makes more sense to invest in players under 30 than to get a 34 soon to be 35yr old striker when we already have a 36yr Giroud.

Giroud should be the 3rd choice striker. Therefore Milan should move heaven and earth to get Lois Openda, Folarin Balogun or Boulaye Dia. They all can play as a striker and a winger and they really good at both.
