Tuttosport: Mirante could renew his contract with Milan – the latest

Antonio Mirante appeared destined to leave AC Milan just a few weeks ago but the situation has seemingly changed. In fact, the Rossoneri could offer the veteran goalkeeper a renewal, a report claims.

Mirante joined Milan in the middle of the 2021/22 season but has only made one official appearance for the Rossoneri; a one-minute cameo against Hellas Verona this past term. In short, he has indeed been a backup.

As mentioned, he looked destined to leave the Rossoneri this summer but according to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), he could renew his contract with the club. A third choice is needed behind Marco Sportiello and Mirante, with his experience, is an important player for the group.

The 39-year-old is already on a very low salary and it could perhaps be lowered further. From a financial point of view, he’s probably the best third choice out there for Milan, who don’t want to have one of their talents in the spot (no playing time).

  1. O ffs, Do you even need to pay a 3rd keeper? They never play, just pull up a kid from primavera if need be..

    1. That will ruin their career. Young player need playtime while 3rd GK often got 0 minute playtime in one season. Choosing veteran italian for3rd GK are best choice. His salary only 500k euro nett too

      1. It’s no big deal. Being a third keeper is a career choice. You know you won’t play but you get to train with players above your level and help out with the kids, and you get paid well, but it’s hardly a ‘top level footballers’ wage.

Donnarumma was a miracle; you can’t usually just throw a kid in.

  2. Well theirs some juicy transfer news to provide us with mental stimulus whilst we wait anxiously for Furlani and Moncada’s first market incoming moves!!!

  3. you do know 500k net means 1M for Milan, right? 1M for sitting on his ass…
I’m saying you dont need 3 keepers in a team at all. 3rd kid gk only gets called up if there is a need (mike out, sportielo playing). So yeah the kid would be in primavera most of the time, playing…

    1. Each club must also have at least two goalkeepers on List A, and three after combining List A and B for Champions League.
Don’t be silly, of course we need 3rd GK. If one is injured we need to have at least 2 in a game in case our GK injured in the game. I know that we need to keep our balance sheets or whatever, but please, this is beyond pathetic for a fan complaining 500k wage for our 3rd GK.
Maignan, Sportiello, Mirante. Done. Move on to the next.

      1. you dont need them tho.
why wouldnt i complain? its paying 500k (1M) for nothing. nothing at all..
At that point might as well the gk trainer is the 3rd gk. He’s never gonna play anyway

  4. When will the primavera players even have the chance to be backups ? I see no sense in this renewal when we can easily bring our primavera to sit on the bench when needed and to even give hope to others.

    1. Our primavera concede a lot. If the defenders are not good, it means there will be a lot shot on target which means more chance to get the GK gain experience in handling shots.
