AC Milan have it all to do tomorrow night in the second leg of their Champions League derby against Inter, as they will start from a two-goal deficit.
Even the most optimistic of fans must admit that this is a mountain to climb given how the first leg went and how Milan have been playing recently, and Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) have written about just how big a task it is.
In Milan’s long history in European competitions, have the Rossoneri managed to overturn a two-goal deficit in a knockout match only once, and that came back in the round of 32 of the 1985-86 UEFA Cup.
Milan were managed by Nils Liedholm back then and lost 3-1 in Auxerre, before coming home and winning the second leg 3-0 at San Siro with a brace from Pietro Paolo Virdis and a goal from Mark Hateley.
In short, the precedents show that a comeback is possible but very, very difficult.
