Tuttosport: Renewal to exclusion – Turkey the last hope as Jovic slips down pecking order

By Oliver Fisher -

It has been a very strange few weeks for Luka Jovic for a number of reasons, and the latest chapter was his exclusion from the Champions League squad list.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) recall, Jovic in the space of a few weeks went from renewing his contract and taking the No.9 shirt to being told that he will not even have a spot in the squad for the top European competition this season.

Alvaro Morata arrived to take the starting striker spot, but at the end of the window Tammy Abraham also joined from Roma who effectively stole Jovic’s place and relegated him in the hierarchies of Paulo Fonseca, despite the positive words from the coach.

Jovic was not part of the trip to Lazio due to what the club said was lower back pain, but in reality there were also mercato-based reasons behind his exclusion. In the end, no negotiations came to fruition and therefore the Serbian seems destined to remain at Milanello at least until January.

At the moment the former Real Madrid man is with the Serbian national team together with his team-mate Strahinja Pavlovic, but international football cannot be his only thought at this moment, even if Turkey is in fact the only escape route left for him (the window is still open there).

It is true that on Tuesday the CEO Giorgio Furlani declared that Milan have three centre-forwards because there are a lot games to come and therefore the need for all three, but the Serbian really risks finding very little playing time. The Turkish market is open until September 13.

  1. Ridiculous treatment by Fonseca, same as with Calabria and Gabbia. The clown rolls in, says nothing to the players about not using them, and immediately replaces them. Not even mentioning the fact his replacement Royal has been the worst player on the pitch whenever he’s stepped on. He seems like he wanted to lose the dressing room on purpose…
