Tuttosport: Sampdoria weighing up loan with option bid for Milan defender

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan defender Matteo Gabbia is attracting the interest of Sampdoria who could soon launch a bid, according to a report.

According to today’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Sampdoria are once again looking towards Milan in a bid to strengthen their defence after they signed Andrea Conti, because they are keen on signing Gabbia.

The formula that they have in mind is a loan with the option to buy, and the paper claims that Milan could accept that deal as they would like to give the young defender the opportunity to play more consistently and develop.

Gabbia – who is now 22 – made 8 league appearances last season mostly during the defensive crisis that emerged due to their being several injuries. He has so far only been out on loan once and that was to Lucchese during the 2018-19 season, but it might make sense to send him out given Pierre Kalulu, Fikayo Tomori, Simon Kjaer and a potential new signing (such as Botman or Bremer) will be ahead of him in the pecking order.

  1. Milan need 5 central defenders. With Romagnoli highly likely to leave, it would be crazy to sell or loan Gabbia especially as he is an academy product. Sampdoria should not even bother to try.

    1. Ik, but if we bring up a primavera, that would be good then SWAP HIM FOR DAMSGAARD. Now, I know people say, oh, he have good euros but shit in serie a, that because before and during euro’s he played in 4231, this season sampdoria play 442 which is why he not as good. Ideal leao backup, better than Lang.
