Tuttosport: Tomori returns to a high level – Milan have their defensive leader back

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s match against Cagliari was more difficult than expected, especially after going behind in the first half, but the team showed good resolve to come back and win.

Today’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) talks about the game in Sardinia yesterday, underlining that Fikayo Tomori’s performance stands out. The English defender – after a not so good start to the season – returned to performing at a good level.

It wasn’t just the match against Cagliari, though. Tomori played well against Newcastle in the Champions League and then on Saturday against Verona.

Against yesterday’s opponents, Tomori was on Luvumbo and it was a high-speed duel won by the Milan man. The Rossoneri defender not only limited Ranieri’s team’s number one threat, but also scored the goal to make it 2-1.

It was a goal that had the air of a centre-forward’s poaching skill and allowed Milan to go into the break with the lead, overturning a difficult situation after Cagliari’s opening goal.

In the second half, the newspaper adds, Tomori continued his duel with Luvumbo but the collapse of the pace of the match allowed him to take a breather in the final minutes.

Important signals came from the leader of Milan’s defence. Stefano Pioli always trusted him and protected him when needed, while Tomori and Thiaw showed that they remain the best centre-back pairing for Milan.

  1. Tomori can never be our defensive leader even though Pioli give him the ultimatum our leader is Kjaer, whether Kjaer is on match or not is still our leader with Theo Hernandez
