Tuttosport: Torino enquire about Pobega – Milan’s stance and the clean slate theory

By Oliver Fisher -

Torino have rekindled their interest in signing Tommaso Pobega from AC Milan after they had him on loan two years ago, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) reports that Torino have enquired about Pobega, a player that they had during the 2021-22 season. He returned to Milan after that loan spell but has found playing time hard to come by.

He played 33 league games for the Granata and he was a player that Ivan Jurić wanted strongly and believed in at the time, helping him to amass four goals and three assists playing in a midfield three.

Torino would have liked to keep him, but Milan wanted to bring him back to make him available to coach Stefano Pioli. In 2022-23 season he made 27 appearances with three goals scored, but last season he was out from December until May due to a tendon issue that needed surgery.

The Turin-based paper claims that Milan have not taken him off the market but would gladly keep him in the squad as an alternative to the starters. The player, for his part, is taking his time after the change of coach.

If Pioli had remained, he would have left in search of more consistent playing time, but Paulo Fonseca’s imminent arrival as the new head coach means that Pobega senses the chance to exploit a clean slate.

  1. Sell him asap. This guy can’t run, can’t pass, can’t dribble, can’t defend, he has no positional awareness on the pitch. I don’t understand why Milan don’t use him to get Ricci or Buongiorno. Smh

    1. Exactly. If Torino are inquiring. Offer Pobega and cash for Buongiorno.

We have no italians in the current squad. Its disgusting.

      1. Pobega is italian. lol. I get what you are saying, i’m just trolling today.
Torino seems to like him a lot and being honest, i think he did decent there. I know Pobega loves Milan but it could be a win win situation.

        1. I think is good for Pobega to go to Torino as well. He is a decent player but in Milan he wont get many chansess. In Torino he will play more advanced position in the mid that suits him better as well.

        2. We have Florenzi calabria pobega Sportiello gabbia not exactly Milan caliber players. We need strong Italian defensiv. A would sell Thiaw Calabria Florenzi Pobega Adli Origi Ballo toure De Kaetelare (Atalanta) Saelmakers Colombo with buy back option same with Maldini and Milan have 100 milj Euro budget this year plus what we get for this players so we could get another 100 milj euro at least so we have about 200 milj Euro at least to buy players.

          Zirkze 40 million Euro
          Guirrasy 18 million Euro
          Kayode 15-20 million Euro
          Fofana 25-30 millions euro
Boungiorno 25-30 millions euro plus Saelmakers or Pobega
Scalvini 25-35 millions euro and is injured so he is cheaper than last year and let him be on loan at Atalanta until next year.
          Varane free
          Casemiro free
          Rabiot free
          Spinazzola
All of them would cost around 150-180 million Euro

          Goalkeeper: Maignan Sportiello Nava
Defenders Central: Tomori Boungiorno Varane Gabbia Scalvini next season
          Left back: Hernandez Spinazzola Terracciano
          Right Back: Kayode Kululu Terracciano

          Defensive Midfielder: Casemiro/Fofana
Central Midfielder: Reijnders RLC Musah Rabiot Bennacer

          Wingers Left: Leao and Okafor
          Winger Right: Pulisic Chukweze
          Attacker: Zirkze Guirrasy Jovic

Coach my dream De Zerbi but it gonna probably be Cardinale mediocre dream Fonseca and this mediocre manager should perform little better than Pioli with this squad.

  2. It’s always funny that foreigners complain about us selling our Italian Primavera youth players, yet here, and in the case of Calabria they want to bash these players. Pobega was a very highly rated youngster.

    1. You hit the nail on the head. Ask I hear is how bad Calabria is and the amount of hate Gabbia received before and when he was rumored to return was disgusting. Meanwhile, Theo, Thiaw and Tomori, reijnders, adli, krunic and rlc caused us more than 50 goals this season. But they get no criticism. Calabria is a better DEFENDER than Theo who gets beat 1v1 every time. Gabbia is miles better than Tomori and Thiaw who only have speed and no defensive IQ!!!

    2. I blame football Manager :D.

When they are 18-20 there’s a chance they are the next big thing in world football. Then when they turn out to simply be a decent footballer, it’s back to the next 18-20 year old who might be the next big thi….. etc etc.

Calabria doesn’t need replacing and Pobega is decent cover who seems happy enough with that role (you need people like that)

    3. Pobega was never highly rated, he’s always been crap. He barely featured for Italy’s youth teams. He’s slow, he can’t tackle, he fouls. He has a good shot and that’s it.

  3. Pobega isn’t at Milan based on merit. He’s here for the Italian/home grown quota. If they offload him they need to replace him. I think the same with Calabria and Florenzi.
