Udinese boss Sottil claims Milan’s four goals were ‘more carelessness’ than ‘deserved’

By Oliver Fisher -

Udinese head coach Andrea Sottil believes this his side gifted goals to AC Milan rather than the Rossoneri’s forwards deserving them.

Milan began their title defence in the ideal fashion as they beat Udinese 4-2 in front of a crowd of over 70,000 at San Siro. Things started in a bad way for Milan as Rodrigo Becao scored against Milan for the third time with a near post header from a corner, but Theo Hernandez converted a penalty and Ante Rebic scored from inside the area to make it 2-1.

It wouldn’t stay that way until the break though as the Rossoneri conceded at the worst possible time when Adam Masina’s header made it 2-2 in added time, but Brahim Diaz scored just after the interval and Rebic scored a second from seven yards out to put the game to bed.

After the defeat in the league against Milan, Sottil spoke in the press conference room at San Siro to reflect on the result and the performance, with his comments relayed by MilanNews and translated before.

Were you excited for your first game?

“It was a great emotion, it fills me with pride. It was hard and tough, but I enjoyed my team. The result is negative, but we played with great courage and personality, having very important chances and we didn’t take advantage of them. We could have done better on the goals conceded. I’m sorry for the boys, we could have brought something home.”

Will the defence need to be fixed?

“There was no penalty, we could have done better on the other goals. I liked the courage and personality. It could have been a different result. We are at the beginning, we are aware that we have an important week in which to take home important points.”

Are you planning to change something at the back?

“It is becoming a bit of a catchphrase. I think I have some excellent defenders. Someone has recently arrived, like Bijol, Ebosse and Masina. Perez has not been back long. we had in front of us, extraordinarily strong and very fast attackers, even if the goals conceded seem to me more carelessness than the Milan forwards deserve.”

  1. This is just petty and a little sad really. I mean 4 goals but we did nothing to earn them? Most goals in football usually have some element of carelessness from the other team doesn’t mean they aren’t earning.
Does he truly believe the two corners they scored were fully deserved and based on merit then. By his logic were they not just products of milans careless defending of the corners.
Honestly just being a sore lover to come out and say something like that after a game.

  2. If that’s how he is going to criticise our goals I’d very much love to see him criticise their 2 goals which were completely due to our defensive errors

  3. bro its football errors are made goals are deserved only like a few times its the scenario u are saying but not in this match
