Udinese director reveals background on Milan’s attempt for Samardzic

Udinese director Gianluca Nani has shed some light on AC Milan’s failed attempt to sign Lazar Samardzic this summer with the Serbian midfielder eventually signing for Atalanta instead.

Speaking to TMW (via Milan News), Nani explained how the market panned out for Udinese and one of the major stories was the departure of Samardzic.

He has been very close to leaving the club in the past with Inter being the most likely destination, but this summer it seemed almost certain at one stage that he would sign for Milan and form part of Paulo Fonseca’s midfield.

Despite how close the transfer seemed, Nani says that Milan never actually started an official negotiation for Samardzic and the move quickly went through when Atalanta matched the price that Udinese wanted.

“Milan had made inquiries, yes, but we never started a real negotiation. Atalanta instead made the right offer, they were the club that wanted the player the most,” Nani said.

It seems likely that had Milan been able to sell Ismael Bennacer late in the transfer window, they would have then made a more definitive move for Samardzic.

The departure of Teun Koopmeiners to Juventus allowed Atalanta to act swiftly and sign the Serbian who certainly did not want to risk the transfer window closing before he managed to secure a move away, and he has still moved up the table and into the Champions league.

    1. doubt it. they almost never invest the money they make by selling. Over the last 5 years they had many a chance to step up and solidify their place in ita football and really make a challenge for the title but they never do it.
Just sell high buy low over and over.

      1. They have brought in a raft of young talent this summer and only really lost Koopemeiners.

They won a European trophy only months ago v unbeaten Leverkusen with one of the best performances in a final I have ever seen.

They will be a tough opponent for anyone in the CL.
Granted they have started slowly but Gasperini gets them humming every year

          1. I’ve got a behavioural pattern while drunk. We all do.
Lvl1 Sarcastic jokes on serious topics.
Lvl 2 Depressive rants on personal life or the futility of it all.
Lvl 3 more jokes and buying everyone drinks. Lvl 4 I get agitated, annoying but not violent. Lvl 5 I disappear because I want to be alone..usually ends up me prowling around for an hour or two..
Because of lvl 5 I tend to get lost in unfamiliar cities

    2. So what would you say to Cardinale who thinks there is a Hugh opportunity for Milan now?
Does he mean that he will sell the club to the Saudi and Maldini and step away for his horror attempt to bring glory times to Milan?
