UEFA club ranking latest: Milan to jump above Juventus by 2024-25

By Oliver Fisher -

With another round of European competitions in the books, the UEFA club coefficient rankings have updated and we can begin to establish some projections in view of next season.

The Italian sides who are still in Europe are Atalanta, Milan and Roma in the Europa League plus Fiorentina in the Conference. These four teams therefore have the possibility – in addition to aiming for final victory in their respective competitions – to increase their points in the UEFA ranking.

This is important because it establishes which of the various pots of the three European club competitions that a team is placed in, obviously provided they achieve qualification through their league placement.

As Calcio e Finanza reports, the ranking after the round of 17 in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League is as follows:

6. Inter – 101 points
9. Roma – 95 points
17. Napoli – 80 points
17. Juventus – 80 points
21. Atalanta – 72 points
28. Milan – 59 points
32. Lazio – 54 points
55. Fiorentina – 34 points

The UEFA ranking is calculated on the basis of the last five seasons, so at the moment it goes from 2019-20 up to 2023-24. From 1 July 2024, the 2019-20 year will be excluded and thus the rankings will change.

Looking at the points collected so far and moving the horizon to the start of the the 2024-25 season, here is how the UEFA ranking for Italian teams will change, bearing in mind the four teams still left in can accrue more:

5. Roma – 84 points
9. Inter – 76 points
19. Napoli – 61 points
21. Milan – 59 points
22. Juventus – 58 points
26. Atalanta – 52 points
30. Lazio – 50 points
47. Fiorentina – 34 points

After the elimination of the 2019-20 season, the Italian teams that will gain the most are Fiorentina and Milan, given that in that season they did not accumulate any points having not participated in either the Champions League or the Europa League.

The Rossoneri, as a reminder, negotiated with UEFA to agree an exclusion from the Europe League after violations of Financial Fair Play. Milan will thus overtake Juventus in the UEFA ranking, a scenario that has not occurred for 10 years.

    1. I’m guessing because of the conference league final and winning and then the following year Europa League finals. Of they manage as well to go far in this comp them they’re pretty much the most in-form team in Europe for Italy

  1. Shows how much we’ve sucked forever if we are ranked below those 3 teams. Particularly Roma whose only international achievement is to be crowned master of the 7th placed European teams.

  2. A club like Milan being in 21st position is disgraceful, we should be top 12 at least, we really need to make the correct investments in the summer (a CDM, a ST, and a RB), to enable us to perform well in the UCL

    1. The only reason we are that low is because we weren’t in the Champions League for nearly a decade or have you forgotten? Like when we finished 8th in 13/14, 10th in 14/15, 7th in 15/16, 6th in 16/17, with the likes of Carlos Bacca, Jeremy Menez, Lapadula, Honda, Ocampos, Delofeu and Suso on the books, led by our worst captain in Riccardo Montolivo. People forget how crap we were and complain about today.
