Reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League could have a knock-on impact on the negotiations over the renewal of Rafael Leao.
This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan) writes that the Champions League participation so far has brought around €60m into the club’s accounts, and moving forward into the knockout stages is vital to be able to spend a bit more on the squad.

An extra €20m come from getting into the round of 16 of the competition (€40m had already arrived), so now the technical director Paolo Maldini once again try to extend Leao’s current deal, which runs until June 2024 with a salary of €1.5m net per season.
Europe’s top clubs have set their sights on the winger for a long time, and he is asking for €7m net per year plus a hand in paying the fine (total €20m) to Sporting CP. There could be developments before the World Cup regarding a new offer, given the extra revenues secured.
It’s better to keep the players we know work instead of letting them go because of a couple of millions in salary and having to buy an expensive replacement. Please set some money aside to be able to affotd extensions for Leao and Bennacer. I think the fans will incredibly disappointed if these players leave. Hakan, Kessie and Donnarumma weren’t as lived as these players have become. At least that’s my feeling. Noone dislikes Benna at least. Some prople still have problems with Leao of course because of his lack of refinement in some situations.
