UEFA’s threat
As Corriere della Sera wrote this morning, there is pressure from the government to put a political figure as a commissioner for the FIGC, calciomercato.com relays. However, this move would not be liked by UEFA.
Indeed, the European body could threaten the nation with a ban from the 2032 European Championship, which they are hoping to host. Given Milan are hoping to get the new stadium ready to be one of the host stadiums, it could have a potential impact there.
However, there would be an immediate effect, too, if the sanctions on Italian football are confirmed. According to the report, UEFA have also threatened an exclusion of Italian clubs from their competitions.
The Champions League is essential to the Rossoneri’s future plans and their ineligibility from the competition could be devastating. It is a troubling report and it may just be a scare tactic. However, it could have a significant effect on an already struggling footballing nation.
