CorSera: UEFA threaten Serie A with two bans for Italian football – how Milan could be affected

Due to the refereeing scandal, UEFA have been forced to threaten Serie A and the FIGC with potential banishments for Italian football.

Everything going on with the refereeing scandal is affecting all levels of the game and Italy could be pushed even further back. What was once a great footballing nation is already suffering after their omission from another World Cup and it may only be the start.

UEFA’s threat

As Corriere della Sera wrote this morning, there is pressure from the government to put a political figure as a commissioner for the FIGC, calciomercato.com relays. However, this move would not be liked by UEFA.

Indeed, the European body could threaten the nation with a ban from the 2032 European Championship, which they are hoping to host. Given Milan are hoping to get the new stadium ready to be one of the host stadiums, it could have a potential impact there.

However, there would be an immediate effect, too, if the sanctions on Italian football are confirmed. According to the report, UEFA have also threatened an exclusion of Italian clubs from their competitions.

The Champions League is essential to the Rossoneri’s future plans and their ineligibility from the competition could be devastating. It is a troubling report and it may just be a scare tactic. However, it could have a significant effect on an already struggling footballing nation.

  1. The Italian league remains a corrupt-ridden environment where systemic fraud and recurring officiating scandals continue to erode the league’s integrity. Yet, despite this internal rot, many Italians remain fiercely biased, preferring to unconstructively criticize the very foreign investors whose capital is keeping their clubs afloat.

If such energy is used in solving corruption issues in the country, I believe we would have a top league that attracts really wealthy investors.

The problem with Italy isn’t the foreign investors, rather it is the systemic corruption and the denial that such corruption exists.

Beppe Marotta has repeatedly rightly said that Serie A is lucky to have foreign owners, stating it is unclear where the league would be without them.

    No world cup.
If UEFA bans the clubs from participation then some old mumpsimus who refused to come to terms with reality will cry foul.

  2. UEFA and FIFA are full of corruption themselves. Never heard them give away money back to all their members. So punish only that cheating wh*re Inter

    1. How would you say UEFA and FIFA don’t give money back to their members?

Have you heard of Solidarity payments?

Also, the $1 billion (USD) prize money FIFA club world cup is one of the many ways FIFA indirectly gives money back to their members.

However, we all know there are traces of corruption too.

But, EPL, La Liga, Germany and even France are patiently coming to overthrow us due to the way we embrace corruption in Italy.
