Unai Emery reveals stance on Torreira future after Milan rumours

By Oliver Fisher -

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has confirmed Lucas Torreira is not for sale after the player was linked with AC Milan last month.

New head coach Marco Giampaolo was reportedly keen on the idea of reuniting with Torreira at Milan, having worked with the Uruguay international during his previous job at Sampdoria.

Rumours persist that the Rossoneri want to bring in a big name midfielder before the transfer window ends, and Torreira was thought to be one of the names on the shopping list.

There was even speculation in June that the player had handed in a transfer request to try and force a move back to Serie A, however things quickly went quiet.

Now, Emery has seemingly put the saga to bed once and for all by confirming that his stance on the 23-year-old has not changed.

The Gunners boss said: “[He is not for sale] because he is fundamental for us”, he said.

Milan are already believed to be looking at other targets, such as Real Madrid’s Luka Modric and Celta Vigo’s Stanislav Lobotka.
