The fact that AC Milan are viewed as the clear underdogs in the Champions League quarter-final tie against Napoli could work to their advantage, a report suggests.
As has been reported by Milan News, it is clear among all of the pundits and bookmakers that Luciano Spalletti’s side are the favourites to win the tie and reach the semi-final where either Inter or Benfica will be waiting.
However, playing the role of the underdog has served Stefano Pioli’s side well in recent history. The entirety of the Scudetto-winning campaign was spent assuming that Milan would lose pace with Inter and not win the title.
The most recent example was when Milan travelled to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Serie A and won 4-0. That could have taken away from their underdog status for Wednesday’s Champions League first leg, but the 0-0 draw was a stark reminder of Milan’s current limitations this season.
