Santiago Gimenez has cooled down a bit after his red hot start at AC Milan, and Antonio Vitiello believes that he requires help from the supporting cast.

After signing for over €30m from Feyenoord in the winter transfer window and scoring three goals relatively early on – including one against his former club – there was a lot of enthusiasm about what the Mexican can bring.

However, since then he struggling to find the net a bit more. His last goal came against the Rotterdam club during the second leg of the Champions League play-off tie, back on February 18, meaning he has now gone one month without a goal.

Vitiello published his weekly column for MilanNews in which he spoke about a number of topics from the new sporting director to the future of some players on loan. As part of it, he dedicated a section to Gimenez’s form.

“Different story for Santiago Gimenez. The Mexican striker needs help, he hasn’t scored in the league for over a month now and since he is a permanent purchase, you can’t lose an asset of the club,” he said.

“The coach will have to find a way to trigger him, to serve him in the best way with an attacking game that enhances him. Santiago will be Milan’s striker in the coming years too, we need to help him enhance his characteristics, to make him grow.

“It will be very important to have him at his best for the last nine games of the league and for the two legs against Inter in the Coppa Italia derby.”

It is a contrast to what Alessandro Costacurta said about the 23-year-old, given he believes the impetus is more on him to get involved in the game rather than Conceicao to build around him.

  1. Sergio probably lost half of the lockeroom. He did it to himself, saying he’s not here to make friends after winning Supercoppa and then clashing with team captain in front if whole world. You just don’t do that.

    So bye bye Sergio.

  2. Conceição should help him by putting him on the Bench against Napoli and he focus on the Coppa Italia. Sometimes from the Bench you can understand how the team works. Keith 🇲🇹

  3. Until the personalities of the team learn teamwork it wont matter, we could have ronaldo but if no is passing to him he cant score

  4. Unbelievable how we spent 35M weeks ago and it already seems lost. Piatek 2.0, but at least Piatek was good for half a season.

  5. He’s a giroud type player in my eyes, someone that needs service to score, he does have the ability to hold play, he’s just more comfortable playing into space but doesnt have the pace for it. Also when Felix is on he takes up the spaces he would normaly take but Felix is getting in his way. He also would track back to help defend like giroud and is good in the air as well. They played well with pioli with a classic 9. I just don’t know if a lot of coaches know how to anymore.
