Journalist Antonio Vitiello believes that there are no signs of positive changes being made at AC Milan despite all of the media speculation.
Milan came into the 2024-25 season with the self-declared objective of fighting for the Scudetto under Paulo Fonseca, but the fact he was sacked in December said a lot about the way things were going. Sergio Conceicao replaced him, and failed to engineer a surge up the league.
The Rossoneri sit ninth in the table despite a positive recent run, while they were dumped out of the Champions League by Feyenoord and won’t be back to compete in it again next season. Thus, there is talk of a summer revolution, with a new sporting director and coach.
Vitiello published his weekly column on MilanNews after the win over Genoa last night, and despite a fourth victory in five games he painted a rather grim picture regarding the outlook for 2025-26 and beyond.
“The victory in Genoa, obtained with yet another comeback under Conceiçao, has not moved Milan’s position in the table one iota, remaining ninth in the standings. Think about this: the Diavolo have won three of the last four league games and continues to be ninth in the standings. This explains how badly the Milan team has done in the previous weeks.
“It’s really painful to see the Rossoneri in this limbo, a team that has had absolutely nothing to say in the league for two months now. Milan might not even play in Serie A anymore, they have no more objectives, and we have to thank the club’s top brass for this depressing end to the league season.
“We’re talking about managers who at the beginning of the season were full of slogans: ‘The future is bright as long as I’m here. Now let’s write history’, Zlatan said in the conference at the beginning of the year.
“Directors who indicated the Scudetto as the seasonal objective for the club, but who have now disappeared from the radar, without providing an explanation for this horrible situation in the league season.
“Ibra and Furlani have not appeared in front of the cameras for five games, even in Genoa not even present at the stadium. Maybe they will reappear with triumphal declarations in Rome if Milan were to win the Coppa Italia final against Bologna.

“Yesterday I read the words of Arrigo Sacchi on CalcioBox, another jab at the management of Milan, but absolutely correct. ‘When you start with a club that has no history, vision, competence and style, it is very likely that problems will arise. These aspects come before the team. The club is the base. If these elements are missing, then difficulties are inevitable’, said the former Rossoneri coach.
“There is little to add, Milan’s weak point is at the top, there is no chain of command worthy of one of the most famous and glorious clubs in the world. Seeing Milan reduced to vegetating in ninth place in Serie A really hurts.
“The depressing thing is that there are no signs of change. Maybe a new sports director comes in, but the structure remains the same. A new sporting director who will not even have the freedom to act as he sees fit, but will always have to deal with the current directors.
“The same ones who were the main architects of Milan’s ninth place, of the exit in the Champions League playoffs after 120 million euros invested in the market, money practically thrown away.
“All that remains is the Coppa Italia, a shortcut to enter the Europa League, but the season remains negative, because Milan cannot be ninth in the standings and make a fool of themselves in the Champions League against teams that are clearly inferior.”
All these Italian Journalists and pundits are full of negativity, bias and unprofessional behaviour , regarding the DS, we are still in may,the appointment can be done even in June, and honestly any DS coming in has to understand we have a good squad that does not need dismantling, and his work has to be in sync with the rest of the management, and supporting the present Coach must be paramount, not replacing him and upending the work of our Coach.
The problem is that Milan is being run by people like YOU. They are trying to show positive sides of their disastrous work. If you don’t reflect the results of your work output, there will never be any progress. Management has done absolutely sh*t job, that’s the reality
I’ll repeat, YOU once said Bonera was a better coach than Pioli. Your judgment is just as bad as our management
yea.. cz we’re still on TOP right?
TOP of the mid-table.
this is Milan not Chievo, everytime we’ve got slump, next we’ll get the big players to climb, but now is opposite,
we sell when we get scudetto, then more sell if we wont, then buy another clubs garbage
Unfortunately, I agree with Antonio Vitiello
I agree that the season is defined by accomplishing the objectives set at the start of the season, these objectives may change depending on what is happening as the season progresses. But the aim is to elevate your objectives as the season goes on if possible but lower them, if you lower them then it is a failure.
So yes AC Milan has failed this season, but to end it with two domestic trophies will be better than not winning anything and sitting 9th. It is still unacceptable for this club to be 9th or even 6th.
So a sporting director needs to be appointed ASAP. This whole deal of making it seem like the management doesn’t know what they are doing and hating on them is poison. It doesn’t help the fans to be encouraged. So I suggest not jumping to conclusions and let us all see how this works out by the end of the season.
Clown show
but from the look of things does it really look like ‘THESE DIRECTORS’ know how to turn things around?
1. “There is little to add, Milan’s weak point is at the top, there is no chain of command worthy of one of the most famous and glorious clubs in the world. Seeing Milan reduced to vegetating in ninth place in Serie A really hurts.
3. “The same ones who were the main architects of Milan’s ninth place, of the exit in the Champions League playoffs after 120 million euros invested in the market, money practically thrown away.
now read these three lines very well and let it sink in slowly…reading between the lines he is saying, not even a coach or absence of a DS is the issue, because if these are brought in, the main problem is still there and now you know the problem.
thank you.
2. “The depressing thing is that there are no signs of change. Maybe a new sports director comes in, but the structure remains the same. A new sporting director who will not even have the freedom to act as he sees fit, but will always have to deal with the current directors.
2.
Previous directors, with only 35 million euros invested in the market, won the Scudetto
Furlani’s team, with 120 million euros, at 9th place, and destroyed Milan.
Clowns, cheers! 🙂
Maldini finished the 1996/97 and 1997/98 seasons in 10th and 11th place with a pretty stacked team.
This too shall pass.
In the last 30 years there’s been many seasons where we’ve not made it to the UCL. The team will bounce back.
Conceicao has found the right formula, and with reinforcements in the Summer, things can only improve.
& then Berlusconi break the bank to buy Rui Costa, Sheva, Inzaghi & Nesta right?
back in that day they are already big names.
do u think jeri will buy such Yamal, Mbappe, Haaland, Rodri?
we’ve young squad last scudetto as fondation, all we need is big players to upgrade next level but jeri destroy it, then want to conquer Europe w/ his own way w/ players like RLC, Musah, Bondo
Wow did this guy forget when milan was always out of top four? Moron
Lord Bonera is a better coach than Pioli who won a Scudetto? What?
