Vitiello: Milan take ‘more than one step back’ in Serie A due to double commitment

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have taken ‘more than one step back’ this season in Serie A but they have the chance to finish the campaign on a positive note.

Things seems relatively on track for Milan up to the break for the World Cup as they sat in second place with the Scudetto race still alive and had secured qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in nine years.

However, the early part of 2023 saw things fall apart domestically. The league form tailed off, a Coppa Italia exit at the first hurdle against 10-man Torino followed and then Inter won 3-0 in the Supercoppa final.

In his latest column for MilanNews, journalist Antonio Vitiello spoke about the juxtaposition between Milan’s domestic and European performances, something that a lack of squad depth certainly influences.

“One hundred and eighty minutes until the end of the season, Milan need three points and they will be in the Champions League (fewer could be enough if Roma and Atalanta don’t win on Saturday),” he said.

“Two games and then we’ll start with the final balance of the season, which we can already anticipate though. The progress in the Champions League was very positive, Milan’s version in the league was truly disappointing.

“Just yesterday, 22 May, we recalled that a year ago the Rossoneri won their 19th title, one of the best seasons in the club’s history. It was supposed to be a season of confirmation, but in the league the team has taken more than one step back.

“On the other hand, Maldini was clear after being knocked out of the Champions League: this Milan is not yet ready to face the double competition to the fullest.”

Adli can be loaned out in Serie A or involved in the deal for SMS

With these changes we can compete for Serie A and CL (quarter / semi finals)

    Forza Milan!

  2. Add medical and mental staff… winning one game against top 4 then losing next against bottom 4 is not normal… hopefully we secure CL next year and have fresh start …
