Vitiello: Milan will go for at least three ‘bargains or opportunities’ in January

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan this season has been plagued with injuries and inconsistencies across the pitch. As a result, they will need to invest in the January mercato, albeit shrewdly given the current financial climate of the club.

Everyone knows the ongoing issues that Milan is suffering on the pitch. Long-term injuries to Malick Thiaw and Pierre Kalulu have haunted the side at the back, whilst the inconsistency of Luka Jovic and the unknown future of Olivier Giroud also provide issues.

Therefore, the club will have to be active in January. However, the club will be reliant on ‘loans, opportunities or bargains’ as reported by Antonio Vitiello (Via MilanNews).

With qualification from their Champions League group looking bleak, it hinders Milan’s ability to be active in January and the summer, meaning that things will have to be done with an eye on value, which could affect their business.

Vitiello has indicated that the Rossoneri aim to bring in at least two central defenders. The first is likely to be recalling Matteo Gabbia, who is currently on loan at Villarreal. The club has also held a prolonged interest in Jacob Kiwior, who could arrive on an initial loan deal.

Furthermore, there is the desire to add another forward to Stefano Pioli’s attacking ranks. Whilst Jovic has started to upturn his fortune, the club is still tracking the striker market and will pounce, should the right opportunity arise.

        1. its valid to dream about frimpong when you have calabria in starting line-up.
he absolutely doesnt fit our style of play. slow, weak, usually beaten in one one one situations. he only defends well when he steps back two metres back from attacking player. we have so much problems from his flank. Malen was just hanging around , doing whatever he wanted. mbappe didnt even notice calabria was there.
frimpong is fast, hard to beat him one on one covers more ground ( we definetly need it, with pulisic on same flank who doesnt run much). he can make good attacking runs.
nobody will gift us kyle walker anyways

  1. Ok for RB Lutsharel Geertruida or Sacha Boey or Amar Dedic
CDM Arthur Vermeeren or Ezequiel Fernandez
Another CB could be Kevin Danso and Kossounou or Tapsoba
Another ST is Jonathan David or Gift Emmanuel Orban maybe sesko if it’s true that his asking price is 26 m then Karim Konate and last one is Santiago Gimenez

  2. “loans and bargains” – yup that’s about right. thanks Gerry. “bargins” means cheap and that usually means low quality or players with issues (injury, attitude, etc…) is that all we can aspire to Mr Furlani and Mr Cardinale? bargins?? Sad

    1. Do you think any great player would be cheap to buy in January? The only players to move during the winter mercato are the ones who are either underperforming or “one-hit wonders” such as Piatek but those won’t be cheap.

So… What are the options then?

  3. This is the problem of Milan. You don’t go for the bargains. You bring players that you scouted and you want because they will add quality. 4 example the terami fiasco. If they wanted him, they should’ve paid a bit more, it’s silly the way it went down but on the long term it would’ve paid of.. instead they went in full panic mode, asked about 3-4 players and ended up with jovic
