Vitiello: ‘Open door for Rabiot’ – Milan remain hopeful after meeting

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan are pushing to improve their midfield, and they have two Frenchmen in mind. This morning, reports have suggested that there is an ‘open door’ for one of them, and now the Rossoneri must act.

There are several areas that you can point to as a reason why last season derailed as it did. Whether it be injuries, lack of depth, or lack of balance, each is valid and better yet, related. With injuries, the depth issue is highlighted, and with the lack of additional support, you’re forced to shoehorn in other players.

This was very much the case in midfield, where the Diavolo struggled profusely, with Tommaso Pobega and Ismael Bennacer having difficult campaigns through injury. Both players are ‘deeper’ midfielders, and with neither fit, others were forced to cover their roles.

The main victim of this was Tijjani Reijnders, who failed to see consistent minutes in a set position, but rather a multitude of positions and roles, and this cannot be repeated next season.

Therefore, the Rossoneri are looking to add midfield depth to their side, starting with Youssouf Fofana and Adrien Rabiot. Both players are priorities, and the deal for the Monaco midfielder will hopefully be finalised soon.

In terms of the other midfielder, though, the situation is slightly more difficult.

Now a free agent, he must decide on his future, but whilst he is abroad, it is unknown when a decision will arrive. However, Antonio Vitiello reports for Milan News that there is an ‘open door’ for Rabiot, and a proposal has been made. It is a waiting game, but whilst his future is not clear, there is a chance for the Diavolo.

  1. I gotta say with him, Fofana, Theo and Mike, we have french national starters, Spain’s captain , a Serbian giant, Leao Puli and Tiji… It really looks good and promising

  2. I gotta say with him, Fofana, Theo and Mike, we have french national starters, Spain’s captain , a Serbian giant, Leao Puli and Tiji… It really looks good and promising !!

  3. Fofana. Cheaper, won’t disrupt the salary hierarchy and has a future ahead. Rabiot is in decline and overrated anyway (especially compared to his salary).

    1. Rabiot wil be in addition to i Fofana. And he is not in decline. Rabiot is at his peak right now and will stay there for at least 3 years

      1. Depends on the cast around him. He was inconsistent at Juve. Streaky. But at 9mil/year he won’t be “peaking” at Milan.

  5. Skip , he wont come . Juve offer 8m euro nett but he reject that offer. Why would he come to ACM with lower salary than juve offer?
